We moved into a house in September of last year and have noticed that when it rains, we end up with a pool of water in our front patio. Seems to be coming from under the concrete slab from and area that has a crack.

Any ideas? Who would look at something like this.

I cannot begin to imagine how that happens but a couple of ideas. What is the roof condition where the porch begins? Any chance there is a leak that is such that it runs down the inside of the brick and shows up on the floor?

Also, do you have gutters on the house?

Roof is brand new. Needed to be replaced just based on age and brittleness not related to leaks

What's the slope on the patio? Into or away from the house?

Are you at the bottom of the hill in a low lying area?

From Aggieland where the clay soils try to crack all concrete ...

Agree with this suspicion that
porch floor slopes toward house &
this is the last place ponding dries out.

If looking for a solution, then an on-site tour
from either foundation repairs or
structural engineer will produce something like
> concrete slant piers
> perimeter soaker system w/moisture sentinels

May I ask if this was once a new spec.house or custom.built?

And before all of that, just take a 6 foot level or a 2x4 and figure out what the slope of the patio is from the wall out. Into or away from the wall.

The patio is definitely sloping backwards towards the house, but the water is coming up through the slab.

We already plan to re-slope the patio away from the house b/c the old peppling is old and we'd like a brick paver patio, but I need to figure out the source of the water before we reslope.

How are you sure it's coming from below? You said this is only when it rains. Very unlikely to come from under the slab from rainfall. Very likely from sideways rain puddling at low point of porch which is next to house.

Also when you're redoing that you're gonna have to be careful because it appears to be monolithic with the house foundation
