I recently had our AC company quit on us. He was servicing a couple of family members, myself included. Long story short one of them decided not to use him for a new install due to pricing and he basically said "if I don't get this install then I'm not servicing your other accounts either. Not sure why he'd do that but…I need a new AC guy now.

I found a company here on Texags called Wilks AC. They are well reviewed. However, I don't see that they are certified for any particular carrier I.e. "trane comfort specialist". I'm on Mobil doing that so maybe I missed it.

They can install anything, of course. My question is, does this affect warranties? If I want a Trane, for instance, and they install it, will I not be eligible for long term warranties?

I ask because I, I can install any shingle I want. They all kind of work the same, but I can offer extended warranties on three top brands because I have the top certs for them. If I didnt, then I cannot.

Is there any downside to using a company for AC that's not factory certified for whatever brand I want? I far prefer quality folks which these guys seem to be. I believe the install is more important than the brand but having a valid warranty is also important. I am a huge believer in annual maintenance on HVAC and I need to get back into that.

Where are you located?

As far as the other questions....For the basic equipment (single speed and 2 speed) the manufacturers will pretty much sell to anybody with a contractors license. When it comes to the top end equipment like the Variable speed stuff with inverter driven equipment then those same manufacturers will only sell to contractors that have been through their training schools in order to know how to properly install, service etc. those units.

Warranties are not affected by who services the equipment as long as they are a licensed contractor. Some contractors do more than others on the maintenance agreements but the MFG are looking for the equipment to be serviced each year in order to keep the warranties in effect. The biggest thing is to make sure your equipment has been registered once it is installed....if it is not registered then the warranty is going to be dropped to 5 years. We register all of our installed equipment ourselves rather than letting the homeowner register it. Sometimes they get busy and forget and then never get it registered. I would rather have that burden on my HVAC company than the homeowner who never deals with that kind of stuff but a few times in a lifetime

I'm far west San Antonio. I just realized last night my system hadn't been maintained in over a year and it's nice to have done to check before the season gets hot or cold. I've historically headed off problems early. Better to have a down system in March than august.

When it does come time to replace I'm a 4 ton VS 2 Stage guy. I am not brand loyal but I prefer not to have Goodman, Carrier, AS or Lenox. I had a daikin at my other house and it did great. No trouble. But you had to be some kind of factory trained installer to get it I thought. I can't recall now.

In north SA.

Sourced Wilks for an ac replacement back in May 2021. It's true they don't advertise as a specialist for any brand, but will say was very happy with the entire process with them.

At time of estimate, they counted and measured all windows and interior volume of home, and accessed the attic to inspect ducting and look at insulation. Determination was made that ducting did not need to be replaced unless I wanted to do it. They offered furnace and compressor options, ended up going single stage compressor & hear pump with variable speed blower.

Ended up going with a Carrier system. Techs were quick, efficient, and cleaned up both indoors and outdoors.

They followed up on monthly intervals for three months after install, and came out a year ago to inspect system and try to sell a maintenance package, which I understand. I did not take them up on it, not because I didn't think there was a lack of value, but because I can source and replace filters and clean the coils at the condensor.

I will have them back out again when my second unit needs to be replaced.

Try Beyer. Their residential President is an Aggie. I use Beyer for home and their other divisions for a lot of commercial projects I work on. I can send you contact if you PM me. They are quality and not cheap but do it right the first time.
