anybody have any experience with metal posts for a fence? That storm did a number of 2 sections of my fence last night and I seriously considering going back with metal posts. The 4x4s that were put after hurricane Harvey (6 years ago) have already rotted/cracked.The guys that installed them used treated lumber......and still didn't last.

I put in a bunch of 10.5' metal posts for a privacy fence and they've done great. Make sure there's a layer of pea gravel at the bottom of the hole so to limit moisture contact with the post (that could be your problem).

I bought mine from a local fencing supply. They had a commercial grade post and I would definitely recommend that route.

Places like Pioneer Steel in Bryan are good sources for precut posts. There should be places near you like this.

Can you get away with used telephone poles? Kinda hard to handle but my fence posts are over 60 years old. Nothing beats carcinogenic creosote.

Seriously, metal will be better but you got to get REAL metal
Posts. A schedule 40 pipe, drills stem, will last a long time.

Your wood post guy didn't find Ground Contact treated in that era BUT that said, eventually any treated wood contained incased in concrete less than 3-in protection can soak up ground water then rot.

Some are getting metal posts from Tractor Supply and Google can present some how-to-dig holes/prep.
Quikrete Red bag might be in your future.

I think you would be hard pressed to find a 4x4 on the shelf of a big box or commercial lumberyard that is not ground contact treated.....

Don't let the microbes in the soil decompose your posts... Give them cancer instead!
