Woke up this morning to the sound of hissing coming from inside the wall. Down below - a pool of water coming from under the wall.

Property - Two-story 1970s townhouse with galvanized pipes. Upstairs bathrooms have been replaced with PEX. Downstairs kitchen and half-bath - let's just say we've kicked the can down the road...until today.

Project:
- Remove the hot and cold galvanized lines that feed the downstairs: kitchen, half-bath sink, and half-bath toilet.
- Run new PEX.
- Repair holes, re-texture, and paint walls.

The guesses:
- How long is this going to take me to remove the galvanized pipe and install new PEX?
- How much is this going to cost? (Full disclosure - I have most of the tools and pipe for PEX installation.)
- How many days until I say "eff it" and call a plumber?

Entire Wall - Kitchen is behind the wall from the hallway.

Left Hole - The turn to feed the kitchen sink. Right Hole - The drop from the attic.

And, yes, the paint peeling on the floor trim suggests this might have been leaking for a while. We never heard any hissing until today.

Holy crap. Galvanized water lines?! And they just now are leaking? Man, my house growing up started pissing water by the mid 1980's. You had a hell of a run.

I had my plumbing replaced with PEX in October and it took 3 days to do my 1650 sq ft house with ~16 fixtures. At any one time, there was 1-3 guys at the house but they averaged 2. Just my experience, YMMV.

Curious how much it cost? I'll need to do it at some point on my 70s house

$11K. Thankfully, insurance covered it.
