Yesterday, I got a call from my parents who live in the Tyler area and have been on the hunt for BR40 bulbs for recessed cans for a couple of months now with no luck. Initially I chalked this up to limited inventory in a smaller market, but then I went to Home Depot earlier today (in DFW) and could not find a single 65W equivalent, soft white, BR40 bulb available in store. In their Ecosmart line (HD's store brand), they were offering higher wattage equivalent versions, but in the 65W equivalent spaces were only LED retrofit trim kits. Lowes was a similar story. Are BR40 bulbs being regulated out or something? I am familiar with the trim kits, but my parents have some extremely high ceilings which would require a tall ladder for install, so I would prefer to avoid these if possible for this specific application.

Me too
I gave away R40s to a church in the day
Then I found some BR40s by pulling teeth
Then I gave up and Amazon sent me LEDs that fit all those Lightolier can lights on dimmers.

Caveat: the LED colors vary a bit from the old ideal Cool White Deluxe CWX
so you must shop 3000K or so ala
