Do y'all do periodic cleaning on these things to keep the grease and roaches down?

What's the best way to clean the grease trap? soaking in hotbwater and dish soap doesn't seem to really clean it out.

I switched to a baffle filter as it's way easier to clean.

But to your question of "do you clean these?" Absolutely, standard maintenance.

If I had access to 400 lbs of steam it would be easy to clean. What are you doing? Soak? It's pretty gross

Baffle filters are easier to just soak. When I had a filter similar to that one I soaked it quarterly or so. If it's been that long and it's that bad you may just want to replace the filter.

I have a baffle style, but just throw it in the sink with dawn and hot water and it soaks for a few minutes... pretty simple

I don't think the previous owners of our house ever cleaned the vent hood. We tried all the usual recs to no avail. We finally doused it with heavy duty oven cleaner as a last resort before just buying a new one. It came out looking brand new again.

Does anyone else have a roach problem in a vent? is that something cleaning helps with or do i need to protect the roof vent?

I toss the baffles in the dishwasher. Need to do that this week - our hood is looking funky and grease stars to slowly drip from the corner to the stove below. That's always the tell it is time to clean the baffles and while they're out take some papertowels to the trench they where they sit.

Once they're done I try to dry immediately to remove any water spots and keep a little stainless polish/cleaner handy to wipe any hard water drops I missed.
Staff - take out the trash.

Mine fit in dishwasher
yours may need a pressure washer or spray car wash trip

The roaches come from poor construction/installation gaps that must be silicone sealed or better (to attic/etc.)

Whole house roaches also to be treated with dia.earth, gels (Amazon and local shops), pro services

Grease build up = fire

When you say dish soap do you mean regular Dawn? If so, get some Dawn Powerwash or search the homemade Dawn Powerwash hack.

Spray, let sit for a bit then wipe down.

Dishwasher is the easiest way, but Totally Awesome (from the dollar store) is the best household degreaser I have found.

I run mine through the dishwasher.

Soak it in Oxiclean for a few hours and it'll come out like new without any scrubbing required.

I saut a lot of foods in olive oil, I also fry stuff from time to time, I'll cook ""hamburger steak" in cast iron, and sausage. So normal cooking involving a variety of fats. What are you cooking to NOT need to clean your vent?

I make bacon in the oven or the air fryer.

If it is bad I will spray it down with oven cleaner but normally we just run it through dishwasher. Thanks for the reminder, it is time to do this!

Close. I enjoy both, but I never cook bacon for whatever reason and I either grill the sausage or boil it. I eat breakfast sausage a bunch, but I put the lid on it while cooking. Damn, now I am going to go look at mine to make sure it isn't filthy and roachy.
