Dear TexAgs
I have a an old home security system 1991 that works fine (Ademco Vista 4140XMP with Vista Panel 5137). However there is a short (Alarm97) and I need to disable a zone.

I do not have the original installer code nor the master code. I have tried to reset using tips I have searched online. 1. Power off and try codes 1234, 4041, 4112, etc. 2. Power off and hold * and # at same time (within 30 seconds). 3. Tried a few other common codes recommended: 5555, 5010, 5100. 4. Search the 4140XMP board for a default jumper (cannot find). Nothing has worked.

Are there any TexAgs home security experts that have a way to hack or reset the installer code or master code? Is there a tool that I could buy? I was tempted to try to use a UART usb, however I checked the voltage and it is using 12V to the Vista 5137 panel, so this would not be a normal 5V UART shell (Plus I have never done it).

Let me know if anyone has experience or advice on how to reset the master or installer code.
Thanks!
David

I'm not sure on your panel. I had a Vista 21ip I needed to reset. Honeywell customer service will NOT help you so don't bother calling those *******s! I figured out a reset method via Google after I got off the phone with them.

Yes. I assumed they would be a waste of time. They don't want to help, only sell new units.

I am going to take a new approach and try to hack by brute force. I am going to see if I can use an Arduino on the key pad and write code to go through all the possible codes 0000-9999. That part of the code will be easy.

The hard coding part is I need to figure out how the keypad is communicating with the main 4140xmp control panel. I have watched you tube videos where they did this on a PS2 keyboard, but there is a standardized library. I also saw a guy use and oscilloscope and decipher the bits (above my skill level). If anyone has any tips on how to handle deciphering a 1991 keypad, please chime in.

Thanks!
David
