Crushed my mainline (not laterals) yesterday. Downstream of tank. Necessary to get licensed plumber or can anyone splice the line and repair?
Concerned about debris in line caused by accident also.
What say you?

If you have the technical chops, no one would ever know that you spliced it so I would do it myself.

As for debris, it reminds me of my mom's septic system in Rockport. It had to have a good cleaning and evaluation after Harvey and also when a neighbor re-built, some idiot contractor drove over her main line and smashed it in a similar manner. She raised holy hell and had them pay for a guy to come out and make sure everything was good to go and the guy asked her if she knew how a green pickle bucket got in her tank. Must have happened on the install back in the late 60s because it was never worked on since. She asked if it needed to come out and he said since it had been in there that long, he wouldn't worry about it.

You can do it and only suffer if/when a rare inspection comes and also rare - finds fault in performance.

That said, I have the same clog/etc. fears as you so want to hire a septic pro that will bring his suction pump to clean out all pipes in the crushed & repair dig area. Make sure he knows what pipes, parts to bring to make this a quick & EZ process that doesn't have to work around weather.

I've done my share of my home septic repairs, pumps and even snaked the lateral lines over the decades = no more, thank you very much - from this I gladly retire.

Can I repair my own septic system in Texas?

Almost all OSSFs must have a permit prior to any construction, installation, repair, extension, or other alteration. Any work on an OSSF must be performed by a licensed installer or

directly by the homeowner when it is their single-family residence.Feb 10, 2023
