I don't want to hire a recurring lawn service but would like to have a solid game plan moving forward for rehabbing my lawn. Is it possible to have a lawn care specialist do a one-time paid consultation just to evaluate the situation and recommend a DIY program? I'm in Dallas.

I would instead hire a Land.Architect to draw a game plan, then install the 1st phase and re-do existing problems THEREAFTER your DIY job would simply maintain and follow plan instructions for case. This also gives you an ear over the phone for future problems ... other than the Garden radio shows' advice ... which are very good at times. Google my email and I then can give out the 411 on some. The one I have in mind is in way North Dallas.

What kind of issues are you having? By "rehabbing", it sounds like you're trying to improve what you already have in place.

One option to consider (and what I would do) is post detailed pictures of what you've got going on over at thelawnforum. They should be able to provide as good of, if not better, direction compared to anyone you would hire for a consultation. Not truly answering your question, but it's a free option.
