My lawn would be beautiful if not for these lines. What do I need to tell my yard guy to do? I think he has been mowing same direction over and over. Any help on how to get rid if them would be much appreciated.

I asked him today and he said it's the soil. Not sure about that answer.

That mowing job looks like crap. If it was me, I would let him know that is unacceptable. Has he leveled the mower? Bermuda needs to be cut with a reel mower to avoid a butcher job on the grass. If he is not using a reel mower on Bermuda that is part of the problem. Is your lawn soggy from too much water?

Seems like a ride behind mower that is creating a path. Too heavy of a mower on moist soil?

I have not watered since we've had a lot of rain lately. I don't know what a reel mower is or if he's leveled it. Was wondering if he sharpens the blade? I just noticed he mows in same direction every time.

I don't want to p him off because he is good and very reasonable with things like stonework, pergolas, etc. But I just think he doesn't know what to do with the mowing.

Edit to add...he bags the cuttings so not sure if that weighs it down further.

Heavy mower + cutting Bermuda at 4 inches = this

Make sure he cuts in different directions each time (one cut parallel to the street, then the next cut perpendicular to the street). How often is he mowing and how tall is it right before he mows? Do you notice any thatch build up?

Needs to be cut lower. Did he cut it super short to start the season? Literally almost scalp it. Not sure what type of Bermuda, but should be cut at a minimum 2".

If you tell him TexAgs has conferred on this and offered up the solution, how could he get angry?

I doubt he reads TexAgs. I'll just play dumb and say I googled and let's try this!

I was going to try and do a quick remow but can't get my mower started!!

I am reading & seeing that he IS reasonable (COST) but that does not usually go with "GOOD" and leaving this result, time after time = little concern for
His reputation
The quality of Paid work
Your property
His continued employment

All the advice above is spot-on but if no reel mower is in his future, perhaps should be in your future should you be wise enough to shop a new lawn man (even if you retain this one for stone/etc. work).

REEL MOWERs also come in riders as well.

You are totally right. I haven't been happy with his mowing service for a while. I have contacted 3 other companies for quotes.

And thank you for posting what a reel mower is. I don't think he has that.

alternate the pattern N-S, E-W, NW-SE, SW-NE. Mix it up.

Zero turn mowers are heavy. He needs to alternate patterns each time they mow. Especially on sandy soil.

It doesn't have to be a heavy mower to cause these lines, and it doesn't have to be wet. Any normal push mower will do this if you continually mow in the same direction and the same lines. I had a neighbor who seemed to intentionally create these lines in his yard in a diagonal pattern that drove me crazy. As others have said he needs to change up his mowing routine to mow different directions. Shorter cuts would also help hide it. Ultimately, he could continue mowing in same direction as long as he moved the mower over some and didn't continue driving down same lines.

I was able to get my lawnmower started. Going to try and mow on Friday and see if I can do any better.
