I need a new roof. I'm going through insurance because I think I will be able to prove it was caused by a wind/hailstorm.

I got three different contractors to come out but none will give me a price quote since they need to first see what the insurance will cover.

My insurance plan is a replacement cost value so I essentually pay the duductible and then the contractor and insurance work it out.

Any advice on how to select a contractor? The three I've reached out to all have a good reviews from others in the area. I just don't know how to differentiate between them without quotes. My concern is they might try to go cheap on the build since I am just paying my deductible.

Hoping some on here have some good experience with this. This is my first rodeo with roofing contractors.

What area?

Wait for Jason to reply and go with him if he works your area. You won't find a better option.

Good afternoon. Sorry I didn't see this a little earlier. Yes, I do work in that area. There is a very good reason they will not give you an estimate upfront without seeing the insurance, but most of them may not be quite versed enough to explain why that is. That said, if a customer wants or insists on an estimate, then I give them an estimate. I'm not going to lose a customer because I'm being stubborn or I don't understand the insurance process and won't give an estimate. It would probably be quicker for you to give me a call so I can explain the situation. There are a few instances where you may actually legitimately need an estimate from a contractor, but in most cases, you don't, because the insurance has already provided it. The way they split the payments is the key. Some of them don't have the software to get the right pricing or some of them just may not want to fool with it. Either way, give me a call and I'm happy to discuss it with you. If you want me to outline the reasoning here, then I can do that as well for everyone as a reference, but I'll have to do that a little later tonight.

My contact is in my profile! The Info is free and valuable, regardless of who you ultimately select to replace your roof.

To differentiate roofers, pricing doesn't matter (generally speaking on an RCV). Your cost is the same, your deductible, and it should be explicitly stated as such on a contract. My contracts do exactly that. What you want to conpare are materials, project managers, and details like warranties. Can they give you an extended warranty if you want one? How long is the standard warranty? How long have they been in business, etc. . I meet my homeowners. I sign contracts. I manage the project. I deal with concerns. I'm there the day it installs.

Some roofers will use the RCV price to figure out how they can maximize their profit. My goal is to figure out how to maximize the install with upgrades and quality materials. I've found that doing it this way leads to way more happy customers and happy customers tend to refers their friends.

Here is a post I did that hopefully will help you out.
