Any turf professionals out there who can inform me as to the pros/cons of liquid aeration as opposed to core aeration? Much appreciated...

I've always wondered if liquid actually works.

Core has good results, and applying compost right after it is the best combo.

I would core aerate every month if i had my own machine.

Liquid: I do use Medina + every couple of months. It has some fertilizer and is supposed to break down the clay. I use it when I have new sod that are basically squares of clay.

Liquid doesn't "aerify" anything. Aerifying is all about creating channels for air/gas exchange and for water to penetrate and relieving compaction. It will also dilute organic matter build up if you add sand or compost afterwards.
There is no liquid that can do any of those things - except, maybe a little help in breaking down organic matter.

Can you use a fertilizer spreader for sand or is it shovel and gentle rake?

Shovel and use a drag(or leveling rake) to make sure it's level. Lots of good videos on YouTube

I've seen very few yards that actually need aerification. Poor soil, compaction from playing or dogs or construction might cause need. However, if your yard is doing ok, I wouldn't bother. A nice 1/4"-1/2" of compost topdressing would be what I do.

The Play Sand (white and green bag) sold at HD and Lowes can be spread with a fert. spreader. It's inside the store with the masonry stuff. Lowes has a sale currently 3 bags for $10.
