How long do you want to ignore this user?
Anybody have one of their rangetops and/or ovens? We are building and I made the mistake of looking at them and deciding I had to have them. Only problem is, I'm not sure we can get them in the 7-8 months lead time that we have. Can anybody tell me something from their personal experience that will make me look elsewhere? I haven't researched reliability or other issues at all; thought I would ask here first. Thanks!

Only negative I've really heard from anyone I know is the larger ovens take a while to preheat. They use the smaller oven on their 48" range anytime they can because of this.

If lead-times weren't so crazy, that's what we would have gotten in our remodel.

Thanks for the response. Something to look further into. Although I think my current Kitchenaid aren't too speedy either.

I have the 48" Pro Grand w/steam oven. I have nothing to say that will make you look elsewhere.

EDIT: I thought of something. They are incredibly expensive.

We're in the process of remodeling our kitchen and are moving from all Viking to all Thermador. We ordered in December of last year and the fridges, micro and dishwasher all took about 5-6 mo. The range (60" pro grand) keeps getting delayed… now expected Jan/Feb. If that holds, it will have been a 13-14 mo wait for that particular range. Ugh.

That said, I researched the crap out of Thermador and I'm willing to wait it out. I prefer the stainless Fridge interiors in Thermador and the pro grand ranges are just bad ass. Hope you can make it work!

Finishing up a full remodel as well. We ordered a Thermador refrigerator, counter stove top w/ downdraft, sapphire dishwasher, and double oven. Initial lead times for most everything was 6+ months. The fridge (36" french door - panel ready) came in within 10 weeks. The stove top and downdraft within 14 weeks. I called to inquire about the dishwasher and double ovens since Ferguson was telling me lead times of 6+ months still and they were able to source the dishwasher the following week.

The only thing I'm still waiting on is the double oven, which may take the full 6 months.

We did an entire home remodel, I ordered all the appliances before we started demo. The remodel took 1 year and 8 days from day 1 demo to move in. All the appliances had arrived by the time we were ready for them. The only thing that hadn't shown up yet was a simple 6" stainless steel vent cover that went above the range hood. That took a year and a half from order to it arriving.

I thought of one more thing to maybe talk you out of it, but it really applies to all ranges that are 48" or larger: it takes like an hour to really clean that entire beast.

What model number double oven? I am hoping that because I'm not wanting one of the mack daddy ranges, just a 48" range top with double wall ovens, that they can get those in time. Six months is a time frame we could live with!

Thank you. If it was a bigger kitchen, I would have gone with double built in ovens and a range top, but I just don't have the space. Built-ins would definitely be easier on the back in a few years. But a big range just looks sick. I chose aesthetics over functionality.

Hah, and here I thought we splurged with a GE Cafe 950.

Well, I walked in to the appliance appointment with my list of Thermador wants, and I walked out with the list of GE Cafe appliances that are going to be ordered.

The salesman showed and talked about the features of the Cafe 48" range top, double ovens, and dishwasher, and he convinced me. I'm still a little shellshocked. The double ovens have enamel coated racks so they can stay in during self cleaning, and I dunno…all of the pieces just seem to have a lot of really nice features. And…he doesn't anticipate any supply issues with any of them.

Thank you all for the input, and I truly meant to heed it and buy Thermador. It's the darndest thing…but I guess the couple of grand I am saving will now go into the island countertop. I've learned I have expensive tastes there, too!

That salesman must get a hell of a kickback from ge…

Did you not look at GE Monogram? That's at least in the same category as thermador.

For those going Thermidorian, Viking etc...

Dual fuel?

Sorry, misspoke. I walked out yesterday with the promise that the salesman would email me the list of appliances with the quote, and I just received that. My brain made up the Cafe, obviously. It's all Monogram stuff, with the exception of the range hood insert. He didn't recommend the Monogram range hood. And it isn't much less than the Thermador, but he feels confident there will be no problem getting everything in.

That makes more sense. Was confused as I didn't know they had any ranges/stoves over 30" in the cafe line.

We liked the monogram stuff as well. We were between them and fisher & paykel, didn't have the luxury of waiting for thermador, Viking, etc., but chose f&p.

Still kind of blows my mind how many people buy appliances that are this expensive and don't use them. So many that ge monogram has parts for their ranges/stovetops that are decorative and you swap out when cooking!

Most of Wolf (Sub-Zero) cooking products are available within 6 months. Exception is Dual Fuel ranges, which are out 11-12 months.

I emailed Thermador directly earlier in the week to find out about lead times on the things I was looking at, and today got a response back. Shortest backorder was 4 months on the dishwasher (which was a freebie with their promotion they have going on). Ovens were 7 months, range top was 9-10 months, and hood insert was 10-11.

So whether or not my salesman gets kickbacks from GE for pushing their stuff ; ) at least I know he was honest about his concerns with our deadlines. I think I will be very happy with what I am getting, so it all worked out.

Again, I do appreciate everyone that responded!

Yup

My kickback comment was more tongue in cheek when you said he convinced you to go from thermador to cafe line.

GE Monogram is a direct competitor to thermador. With better stock. So don't blame you at all for making that choice and think you'll be happy with them.

After owning 2 houses with thermador appliances we were not very happy that our third was being built with GE Profile due to the outrageous prices the builder was charging for upgrades. We decided we would just suck it up and upgrade later but go with the best GE Profile model.

Gotta say after 2.5 years, the GE stuff is performing better than our previous thermador range and oven. We are shocked we are even saying this. Better at simmering, more accurate temps in oven and maintenance free so far. Can't say that about our previous new thermador items. We had trouble with a coil and the oven computer board went out. But still we thought it would be better than GE. Not so.

We replaced our ge profile stuff with a luxury brand and it's no contest. Hell, the max output on the highest stovetop burner was 15k BTU. Going to burners with 18-13k btu was a huge difference
