I have Palisades zoysia in Austin. Can I follow his schedule even though it seems to be geared for Houston area? I typically fertilize in the Spring with whatever Scotts that Lowes has. I want to start using pre-emergents for Spring weeds. His schedule indicates Barracade or Dimension now as well as a 8-12-16 fertilizer. To my knowledge, these aren't available at the big box stores. Where do you get them?

I get mine at Houston Garden Center, obviously doesn't help you being in Austin, but check out any nursery/garden center by you.

Buy generic Barricade (Prodiamine 65WDG) powder and save a ton of money and back breaking labor. Much cheaper and easier to spray it.

Yes, you can follow. Just push back the application dates back about 3 or so since austin is more north

To clarify this, shrink your summer. So an application in the spring should be made a little later than Lemmon's schedule and an application in the winter should come a little before Lemmon's. I have found that ~2 weeks works for me in College Station so 3 as Kubiak suggested is probably pretty good for Austin.

Yikes, sorry. Didn't realize how horrible my writing was.

Someone want to post the Lemmon schedule for me? I'm behind and in my month away from home weeds took over my yard.

Thank you.

On that note, I didn't put down pre emergent and was gone for a month and my yard is ate up with weeds and other bs. What is the best thing to apply now that I need to control them? Lawn is st Augustine.

Depends on the weeds, but liquid Atrazine is relatively low-impact on St. Augustine and effective on most common weeds. The liquid application is better than the granules (ie- Scott's Bonus S) because less runoff issues.

If you are willing to endure grass discoloration (chlorosis) to reach a broader spectrum of weeds, consider Tenacity or MSM tank mixed with Atrazine at reduced application rate. Make sure and use the right surfactant and apply when temps are low/grass isn't stressed.

This is why I hate a lawn. If you aren't on top of it all the time it becomes a giant pain in the butt, getting more complicated and expensive.

Here's some of what I'm dealing with.

The second picture is Lespedeza. Atrazine is labeled for them. I would start with that and see if it knocks out the dandelions/broad leaf too. It also has some preemergence effect as well.

I would suggest a topdressing of compost instead of fertilizer.
Our Austin soils are thin in general west of mopac & the compost will slow release nutrients & build/maintain soil depth.

You don't have to be on top of it "all the time".

You just didn't put down any pre-emergent.

You literally just need to find 1-hour within a 60-day window 3 times a year to put it down.

Thats fair. My erratic schedule is always screwing me so my lawn ends up being a PITA much more than others with a regular schedule.

I understand that.

But I also understand if she can push a baby stroller, she can push a fertilizer spreader.

HA. I ask her to do enough already. She breaks out the mower occasionally. What I need to do is set calendar alerts to put it out so I dont constantly forget.
