Of course aluminum may be superior to wood in Texas in many ways & even resale.
Anything that moves, then does not move immediately due to debris, leaves, etc. becomes a waste of money, frustration and maintenance ... contrary to the goals associated with aluminum.
You may see more of these up North, accompanied with rolling shade/walls to "weatherproof" a deck, patio covered with such.
If a fixed version costs impressively less, then I would vote for that.
