If I don't get grout down tomorrow I won't be able to do it for a week or so. Would it mess the job up to go ahead and grout? I started laying tile at about 0900 today and finished about 1700. I would like to start grouting at about 0900 tomorrow.

I would wait. Nothing will hurt to wait but you can and will most likely mess up your tiles and get shifting trying to grout that soon.

What size are the tiles? Are they glazed or natural stone?

I would probably wait, however, I did grout a backsplash one that was 4" natural store around 24 hours after the last tile went in. Of course, most of the splash had been done longer than that.

Approximately 1 foot hexagons. Porcelain.

Yea I probably should. Just have 3 little kids and am worried something bad will happen while grout is missing. Never underestimate the amount of damage a kid can do when left to their own devices. Plus the constant flow of neighborhood kids in to the house.

So this was my first ever tile job and so far so good. Props to red pear realty for talking me in to it.

There should be no walking on that tile before the 24-48hr dry time. The edge plugs are great for initial setting but they will not stop shifting and vertical movement from being stepped on. Looks great for a first time job.

Grouting is pretty foolproof once the tile is set and dry. Unless the kids track in mud that can prevent adhesion to the tile edge, you should be safe with a quick wipedown with a moist sponge before you start your grouting.

That looks really good!

Lock that front door and threaten the ass whipping of a lifetime to the kids if they step on it.

I told my wife not to walk on it for several days and an hour later she is standing on one of the tiles trying to go out the front door. Can't win for losing.

Another question, I knocked a bunch of the spacers out while cleaning up by the door. Do I need to put those back in or is it fine now that everything is in place? I assumed it wasn't a big deal so long as no one steps on it.

WTF? I'd be pretty angry about that.

Try to block entry somehow. Line dining room chairs up against the sides of the foyer, maybe.

She didn't mess anything up and it ended up being funny instead of frustrating. But yes, in the moment I was not happy

That looks great. I would wait to grout it. If you are leaving town for work, take painters tape and go from wall to column both directions to give people a blue visual to not cross. If people stay off of it, you will not have too much junk in the grout lines. I would still run the shop vac over them before grouting.

Pretty happy with myself for my first go at it.

Nice job! How difficult was it cutting those tiles?

Dude. I had the biggest "wtf did I get myself in to" moment when I went to cut the first one and realized my fence wasn't going to do jack **** against the point of a hexagon.

Luckily due to the orientation of the tiles there were only 10 cuts that had to be made without a fence. The transition pieces will cover those edges and I opted to go with quarter round as well which will be installed later to cover up the other cuts because this tile definitely chipped a bit on the edges when being cut.
