I put down some ironite about 10 days ago on some very yellow areas of my lawn. It's been watered in quite well and mowed once but is still very yellow. Would you recommend I add more iron?

Here are a couple I just took. It's after sunset but I think you can see everything.

First pic is all mature areas of the lawn with patches of yellow.

Second pic you can see butts up to some new sod I laid two weeks ago.

Good to know. We've been in the house almost two years now. Last year did a soil test through TAMU and it said to add 1 pound N/1000sf in late summer every year. I just assumed to use ironite.

Mid June isnt late summer. Fertilizing st augustine in the summer makes your problems worse.

I read through that site, and it really just reemphasizes how ****ty a turf grass st augustine is. There is close to a dozen things that can kill it.

I have it on my schedule to add N in August annually. I did it a week ago because of the chlorosis, not as maintenance. Oops hope I didn't screw up.

If I were you, I would use all liquid spay products versus spreader products for the issue at hand. Maybe try Medina Hasta grow lawn or Medina+ spray products.

Since it is a mature yard, I would also add minerals using Azomite (spreader). Randy Lemmon recommendation. I think this has helped my very old lawn.

Due to the drought, I would water an area very well then try one of the sprays.

I like Lesco stuff, personally. Seems to be a bit cheaper than the Scotts stuff right next to it and I can't tell any difference in results.

It can't hurt to spray Spectricide down. A lawn weak from another disease will get chinch bugs. It's easy , cheap and it will kill them.

I just had this issue yesterday. A small section of my yard was toast and not from the lack of rain, I mean dead. Did some investigating and found a chinch infestation. Threw the spectracide on it today, hope that gets rid of them. 2 summers ago we got them while on vacation and almost lost the entire back yard.

Must people don't realize that patch is chinch bugs and keep watering it.

Keep applying it every two weeks or so. It's really cheap compared to other stuff.

I also put down Bug Out granular with bifenthrin twice a year.

I'm having some browning issues as well, even with a good watering schedue. I also follow the Randy Lemmon schedule that calls for an application of 19-4-10 on St. Augistine at the end of June.

Can I/Should I put down the 19-4-10 in addition to the Scotts Disease X?

First of all on the browning. I bet it's chinch bugs and not a disease. You got to kill them.

And yes put down the proper fertilizer now. My yard perked up and is nice and green after I did. A strong grass will help do battle with the weeds and bugs.

I'm a certified turfgrass professional, and ran two successful lawn care companies for 20+ years. I dealt with a lot of this over the years. Its Take all root rot. I suggest a combination of fungicides, top-dress with spagnum peat moss, and proper watering/fertilization. PM me if you want more detail.

So far no improvement in my grass. I just assumed it was a lack of iron but the post about root rot caused me to look closer. Does this look like root rot or gray leaf spot? Or are those the same thing? Any suggestions on a particular treatment?

It's pretty common to see grey leaf spot in take-all.

Different things cause take-all. What all have you done to the lawn? Mainly before this started happening.

I have been on the Randy Lemmon schedule. So just done the fertilizer and used Amaze for pre-emergent.

Unfortunately I thought this was lack of iron so about two weeks ago I added iron to the entire yard. Apparently with fungus that is the worst thing I could have done. I have not noticed any ill effects, though.

This is going on in my front and back yard. In May I put down a pallet of sod in the back and a pallet in the front. It's doing well considering the terrible heat and drought. The new grass is seemingly unaffected as of now.

Do you know the dates you used each of those and a guessed date on when this popped up? Any runners coming up and knuckling?

It's curious there's a "build-up" along the bottom of the slope of the established grass. I've seen yards where people use a weed and feed and put too much out or they use the wrong bag and it causes this.

I put down a quick-release fertilizer in mid-March and a slow-release in late April.

I put Amaze down in early May.

I added the Ironite on June 26th.

I may be misunderstanding your question but I don't really have a slope in my yard where this is occurring.

The picture that shows the new sod looks to be slightly sloped towards the new sod. It may just be the picture.

Wow - I thought I had diagnosed my issue as gray leaf spot. After reading all of this I am now wondering if it is take-all patch.....

I don't know why it looked sloped in my prior pic but it's pretty flat on this side.

Honestly, nobody knows a lot about Take-all. Pretty much everyone follows A&M's advice on it because they've been at the forefront of it. Peat moss used to be the fix, recently it's been azoxystrobin. In my experience neither one really solves the issue. It's not like other funguses like brown patch that you can solve with a fungicide or dollarspot in Zoysia/Bermuda that you can solve with a fungicide or just fertilizing heavily. When it's as bad as the OP's issue, it's usually from an over application of something. It's common to see it up against foundations for whatever reason. Some people think it's because of the dirt they use to build the foundation. It usually goes away on its own. I deal with it every year in my yard and it just comes and goes. My advice is to stop fertilizing in the heat of the summer.

The best way to treat fungus is preventatively. One thing to never do to fungus in St. Augustine is fertilize it. As far as OP's yard, if you ask any turf company the suggestion will be fungicide and top dress with peat moss like previously suggested. You're trying to treat the fungus and introduce organic matter back into the soil.

I sprayed some propiconazole on the affected areas. Felt a little risky because it wanted about doing it in high temps. Fingers crossed.

I also ordered the Immunox (myclobutanil) with insecticide posted above. Haven't received it yet. Any thoughts on doing that after applying propiconazole yesterday?

I can try to do s****num moss this weekend.

I'll be on the lookout for this in years to come.

I'd say Chinch bugs. They are ferocious.

What has been applied? When did this appear?

Popped up a couple weeks ago out of no where. Nothing had been applied prior but since then I've put down Triazicide thinking it was bugs of some kind.
