So, the kids got a little wild and a small inflatable ball hit the ceiling fan blade while it was on. Now the fan won't turn when on. Light still works and the motor hums when on but not blades won't turn. It will spin when I push it, but eventually comes to a stop. Any ideas? I'd rather not replace, but I'm thinking that's what I need to do…

Have you tried all the pull chain settings? It doesn't sound like that's the issue, but worth checking I guess.

I did. The "hum" got gradually quieter with each pull and then back to original level when it got to the high setting.

Check if the reverse direction switch got hit into the middle? See if it will go the opposite direction and then try the correct direction again? Definitely does sound like the coils of copper inside that cause the movement might have had their circuit broken somehow with the jolt. If that's the case, your stuck with replacement only.

It was the reverse direction switch. I guess it got bumped to the middle when the ball hit it. Working good now. Thanks for the tip!
