Does anyone disassemble and clean double pane windows?

I have several double paned glass windows that have lost their seal and fogged up. I know that the standard answer is to just replace them but every place is back-ordered.

It has always seemed to me like a horrible waste to cut new glass and build a new pane of glass for windows when the right size / shape of glass is right there if some would just break it apart and clean it. Maybe it hasn't made sense in the past, but if the glass itself is what is in short supply, then why don't glaziers do this now?

Don't you have to be able to replace the air with some inert gas?

I'm not sure, but wherever they do that, it still seems like they'd be better off recycling the existing glass instead of measuring and cutting new glass.

I'm not sure it's possible to separate the panes…they are manufactured and installed as units. It my be able to be done, but I don't think it would be worth the time and effort and you couldn't do anything to prevent condensation from appearing again.
plus ça change, plus c'est la même chose

Check with manufacturer on home service repair. There has to be some sort of service repair out there for resealing.

Because the process of cutting the glass is cheap. You can do that in your garage with 5 dollars of parts. What's expensive is the proprietary means and methods of putting the two together with the sealant, pulling a vacuum to clear the air out, replacing it with gas, sealing it up, etc etc. It's not something anyone other than the manufacturer of THAT window can do I would imagine. It's probably done in bulk and to have a man doing just one as needed is expensive.

You'll have to replace the whole thing I'm pretty sure.

Home service repair is likely to replace the unit under warranty.

I've heard a lot of cheap ideas from the old bulls I know.

But this has to be one of the cheapest…
