This is the first of a couple of threads looking for some recommendations on contractors..

Looking for some recs for a flooring contractor for the north Dallas 'burbs.... Looking to do whole home flooring. First floor will be either hardwood or wood look tile... carpet install on the second floor. Want to avoid big box installers.... Just curious if anyone has a company for this they were happy with.

TIA

I just completed my whole house with wook-like tile. I highly recommend that product and the company that did my install. At least get an in home quote from them.

Trinity Floors installed lots of hardwood and a little tile in my house. I worked with Byron.

I'm currently using Builder's Carpet in McKinney. Their specialty is custom hardwood floors, but they also install engineered floors, tile, and carpet. IMO they have been very easy to work with so far. Hardwood floors have been installed. They will come back to stain floors once the house is complete. I worked with a guy named Red. He was very helpful explaining and quoting differences in wood floor options.

Just curious, what is that costing these days? Do you have a ballpark what you are paying per/sqft for the materials and install? I'm looking at replacing most of my flooring down the road, and I have heard a lot about Builders Carpet and live fairly close to it actually.

We chose a 3.25" red oak level #2 finish which came to $10.25/SF (Dec. '21 quote). This included a plywood base between the finished floor & slab on grade. This happens to be the cheapest option custom wood floor they offer, but it was our preference. As you increase the width of the plank, upgrade species of wood and/or level of finish, pricing starts to climb. For example, jumping from a 3.25" plank to a 5" plank added $0.50/SF. Choosing white oak over red oak added $0.25/SF. I didn't have them price the higher-end finishes. We preferred the more rustic/worn look in our home, but they offer finishes with limited imperfections.
