Alright. Is there a hose at lowes or home depot worth buying? I'm willing to spend $$$ to get one that will last

This is not necessarily what you are asking but throwing it out there and it is more to my situation as your situation may differ....

For me, I don't like having big clunky hoses...they are annoying to drag around I do not like the storage space requirement (either huge bucket outside, huge tangled pile on ground, or a hook on wall of garage). I use my hoses mainly to wash off patio and to wash cars. For me, Silver Bullet expandable hose is the way to go and I have 2 of them...both have lasted about 1.5 years and still going strong. I am sure they won't be as long-lasting but to have a hose that small when not in use...they are so no-discrete I just wrap up small and put behind a bush and its basically invisible.

I installed one of these on my house, mostly because it's the only one I could find with a parallel arrangement, and I love it.

Have 2 of these (reel + hose combos) and agree, they're fantastic. You pay for the quality, but they're great.

I think the Craftsman rubber hose is a little better than the Flexilla (I have/have had both). I just don't know that the Craftsman sold by Lowes now (the only one you can get) is of the same quality as the one sold by Sears. Oh, how I miss garden hoses Sears sold for the last 50+ years. If nothing else, they had it going on in that department. If you keep the Flexilla outside, it will turn brown/black.

I've got another Flexilla on order, but its a leader hose. Craftsman doesn't make one in that size.

Don't bother with kink-proof ones. Just get the quick connect fittings, which act as a swivel. I've seen very few hoses that do not kink at all -- and none made in the last 20 years -- so the swivel is the only thing that is going to keep it from kinking. Keep in mind that if you get the brass ones, they last a year or two outside and that's it. They corrode and become useless. They're not expensive so it isn't a huge deal but I'm trying out stainless ones to see how long they'll last. Fittings for water hoses, pressure washers, compressors, etc. -- stainless over brass every time.

Are the quick connects worth a darn? Tried some back in the day and they were terrible. Haven't even considered trying again until seeing the pic above.

I have the same quick connects and they have been great.

Have an expandable hose on side of the house for moving around as needed and a reel version on the back which has been pretty great. It came with the house and not sure I will pay for a replacement when it goes though.

Frustrated I was as you in the day, always on a budget.
Found a Sears Craftsman 100% rubber w/lifetime warranty, only had to replace for free one of 4 (100ft, so plenty of potential problems afoot).

No longer found, another one got mowed, so found another brand 100% rubber (warranty - I forgot)

IF shopping ever again, I rarely find that quality, life-warranties sell well here so not often stocked. Locals want cheap, disposable. Ergo, I would be looking at ...

Limited lifetime warranty or better, if found

Wouldn't surprise me a bit if that was made by the supplier of the craftsman. The craftsman's as the best! I did find a Continental brand at lowes I think that has a good warranty and is rubber. It's been ok but I like the craftsman's better. I might try the one in the link!

ETA: can be bought from lowes a little cheaper if you get two 50' ones.

I bought this flexzilla after reading event reviews and couldn't believe how anyone could stand it.

It's light, but almost impossible to wind. It doesn't have any heft to maintain a coil and it likes to kink if you attempt to coil it without it fully rotating. I've had a lot of garden hoses in my life, and this one was by far the most baffling how others find it tolerable and highly rated. I wouldn't use it if they gave it to me for free.

Best hose I've had is a Craftsman rubber.

The next best and versatile has been the zero-g from teknor. It isn't perfect as the 5/8 water flow won't max out a big sprinkler head, but it's extremely Versatile for practically any other purpose. I got mine from Costco when they had a 100' for sale.

They now make a 3/4 pro-line that I'll probably buy in the future.

1. Craftsman Rubber - heavy duty hose for anything (2.5-3 GPM)
2. Teknor Zero-G - hose for lawn watering or drip (1.5-2 GPM)
3. Accordion / "Pocket" - hose for light-duty water or drip (1-1.5 GPM)

I bought these stainless hose connectors on Amazon and just installed them today:

ESSENTIAL WASHER Garden Hose Quick Connect Hose Fittings - 3/4 Inch Stainless Steel Water Hose Quick Connect Set

They are about twice what you'd pay for the brass ones -- at Amazon or Home Depot. The only thing I can tell you so far is that they connect better than the brass ones ever did. My brass ones are shot. I tried to move the ones that were on the end of the hose on the reel that would connect to the nozzle (where I put the new stainless ones) to a the reel leader connecting to a faucet leader and they will no longer connect. So I need to buy another set. I'll probably just hook those hoses up for now and test the stainless QC fittings.

I have 3 faucets coming out of my house. I'm planning on putting leader hoses out of each with QCs on all of them, and rolling one of two reels to them when I need to water. To me, that makes more sense than having hoses sit on the wall of the house, exposed to the sun, etc.

Eley hoses and reels are worth it. Upgraded mine a couple years ago and they still look great.

No matter what hoses I've gotten, a good, solid reel has always made them last longer.

Has anyone tried the retractable hose reels at Costco? (Similar to compressed air or power reels for your garage)

I couldn't stand my Flexzilla. Just as another point of reference. Left it as the last house I sold.

Anyone have a decent 3/4 hose? I've got to water things 200' away from the spigot and the capacity would be nice.

Just FYI on the stainless quick connect fittings. I've used the ones I referenced above a few times and so far they work MUCH better than the brass ones you can get from HD and elsewhere. I know its early, but I think its best to pay more for stainless -- both for water hoses and pressure washers if you're looking at those as well.
