I'm looking to replace all the upstairs carpet, and have looked at places like Lowe's, Nebraska Furniture Mart and local flooring stores. Any suggestions on best route for good pricing and quality manufacturers for carpet? Its not something I've done before, but I assume there are certain brands to focus on/stay away from, as well as stores that have a reputation for better pricing. Thanks!

When we did ours, we found that the local flooring store was able to give a higher quality carpet & pad at a lower/very similar price to lower quality from Lowes/Home Depot as long as we liked one of the 10 or so carpets/colors he did high volume in. He was much easier to work with too - direct phone line and all.

I had to replace some carpet in my house a few years ago, and I knew absolutely nothing about carpet. I stumbled upon this website that I found helpful. It could be dated now for all I know, but I thought it was pretty informative and helpful at the time. As for where I bought carpet, I had water damage that my insurance was largely picking up the tab for, and I went with a local contractor they recommended.

If you're a Costco member, MyFlooringAmerica is a great option. The Costco umbrella gets you the top of their game at some pretty good pricing once the shop card rebate is factored. I used them about 18 months ago for carpet and very satisfied.
