We are in process of looking for lots to build on. Hill country, so lots of elevation changes. In today's market, any good estimate on foundation costs? How much extra for every ft of foundation for 4000 sq ft slab? Any "guidelines" I should know? Like after 10 ft I get the pleasure of some extra cost I'm not considering? Any advice appreciated.

If you are over 10 ft, I would figure out a way to use that space rather than pour that much concrete.

right now concrete costs are all over the place depending on where lot is.

Even if there isn't that much elevation change, I would do a crawlspace foundation for a bunch of reasons given the choice.

Pouring a 6500 sq ft slab for house next month. No elevation. In Hill Country. Prices ranged from $14 to $20

Holy smokes that seems expensive. That large of a slab will generally require a couple of pumps adding to the costs but not to that extent.

Its hard to judge price though without knowing the engineering requirements. Does it have piers, deepened beams, any particular finish, etc.

Generally, the price per sqft will go down the larger the slab.

No special finish. Saltillo tile will be on entire slab so finish will be very slightly rough.

I'm in the industry and have been seeing these prices for several months. Was not surprised.

I built a barn 2-3 years ago. 40' x 92' and paid $12.

Wow. We've only priced out a slab into double-digits if it was under 1800sqft or had unusually deep beams (for example, 48" and 52" beam).

We also do quite a bit of scattered site foundations in the greater Houston area and will get into $12/sf or so depending on how far labor and concrete supplier have to travel.

If you are seeing $14 to $20 in the Hill Country given that is where OP is, the would be wise to to reference what you are seeing.

And $20 is on the high end. But, I don't think you can get anything poured around here for less than $12.

My house site is nearly level and just above grade. Very easy working area. And, other than showers, there are absolutely no offsets.
