Not really sure what you're asking here, but we did an entire house worth of floors last year. After spending entirely too much time getting quotes / comparing specs, found a local family-owned flooring store. I feel that I got a better carpet & pad with color/style options we liked better than anything at a big box store, and the turn-key price was comparable if not better.
Basically asking if there was a carpet brand better than others? Shaw? Thought it was a simple question. The carpet upstairs is nearly 20 years old and is pulling and bumpy in some areas.
If you'll keep shoes from outside off carpet, which should be a lot easier for upstairs rooms, carpet will last almost indefinitely. When you clean it, go to home depot and rent a heated carpet extractor. DO NOT use any detergent in the extractor itself but scrub stains and soiled areas with a degreasing cleaner.
Do all that and carpet will last and look new or nearly new.
We went with commercial grade carpet squares in the gameroom figuring there would be spills and food. It's held up great but if a piece gets damaged we'll just pull it up and install another one.
