Howdy everyone!

We are hoping to build our house soon on some land we already have in Burleson County. There is electricity to various spots on the land from BTU, but where we want to build is about 800 feet from the nearest utility pole. Does anyone have any experience getting electricity to a new part of land (through BTU) and a possible price point we are looking at? I have been in touch with BTU but have not heard back from them yet on setting up a time to come out and look at stuff.

Any information is greatly appreciated!

don't know BTU, but Bluebonnet was abt $9/ft

500ft
2 poles
meter loop
transformer

obviously, meter loop and transformer are fixed so it comes down to # poles tp make 800 ft. I would think you could do 800' with 3 poles if it is a straight, clear run

oh okay thanks for the information! It is a straight shot. We are actually on the line between Bluebonnet and BTU but I think the BTU lines are closer to our side than Bluebonnet

We had to go about 600' with Midsouth. The material was $3800, labor was $2500, but we got a $1500 construction credit. This was for all overhead lines with no right-of-way clearing (no trees can be under the lines). This was in 2013. So maybe expect about $10/ft.

Midsouth will do a "pedestal" with the meter on the pedestal. It's just a metal box around the size of a pole you would see in front of a parking spot at a convenience store. They run power to that, the meter is on that, you can put a plug on that...and then run it from the pedestal to your house. We liked that option because it gave us immediate power to the property (you can plug an extension cord directly into the pedestal). Then, we were able to go underground to our house.

We built a shop first, then a house later. If you do something similar, make sure the transformer is sized for the house, not just the shop. Also, wherever the last pole is placed, there will be a guy wire another 20-30 feet from the pole. We wish we would have placed the last pole about 10' back as the guy wire makes things a little tight between it and the fence.
