We are currently building. Debating upgrading our window trim color from the standard colors offered. We are set to install basic white double pane vinyl windows. Considering either black or a dark bronze trim. I am coming across a lot of different options available, but really just interested in upgrading the trim color and not the material/performance of the actual window (ie composite/wood, etc). Is this generally considered a huge upgrade?

I consider it to be a big upgrade, others may not care at all. Drive around some neighborhoods and pay attention to windows. See which houses usually pop out to you. I find it especially apparent in older neighborhoods where you see a larger variety from old aluminum windows to white windows to upgraded black or brown windows. Can really make big difference in the house to not just have the builder grade white look, but that is also dependent on the rest of the houses colors too.

If you plan to be there long term, get whatever you want. If you plan to be there a shorter time, I think the curb appeal can help set you apart.

That said... all depends on the upcharge to get it...

Thanks Brad. I have noticed the majority of homes in our neighborhood going up either have a black or bronze window trim. We've built before, but never gave it much thought. Seeing so many use it now made me wonder if the cost had just become negligible over time. Will definitely consider it now as it seems to be the new standard.

I work for a builder and a lot of our customers are wanting to upgrade to the black or bronze. What a lot of our customers don't realize is that the inside of the frames are white which when you think interior most don't care. However after the fact a lot of times you can see the white trim contrast from the black trim when your outside and it can irk some people. If you go with a dark aluminum frame, then the interior is the same color, and not the white. Also just beware of lead times for these guys right now- it can take forever to get them because of how popular. To me, if you want the dark look go for it.

Talking to my GC, black is costly upgrade from white. He said bronze is a cheaper option, and it looks close to black.

We did replacement windows from old aluminum to vinyl. The premium on the dark bronze from the standard colors (white almond beige) was 25-30%. However it definately looks better and the wife is happy so it's all good.

1950s/60s neighborhood so lots of flips which are doing white painted broke with black windows but have seen much fewer with bronze which we like. Amsco does a layered on bronze finish vs painted so it doesn't scratch as easily as the painted frames.
