I plan on pouring a new driveway along the side of my house to my shop in my back yard. My water meter box is located where this driveway will be. Any recs for a concrete or cast iron water meter box that would be rated for traffic? The meter box is located in the middle of this new driveway, so 99% of the time it would be straddled by my truck, just looking for something sturdy enough that if I accidentally catch it with a tire it won't collapse.

Anyone know where to find these in Houston? Oldcastle gave me a few main distributors and none seem to carry any in stock. I can special order but was hoping to tackle my project sooner than later. I'm just looking for a light duty water meter box and lid(Christy B09).

Is this on city / counter water service? You are likely going to need to permit and use one of their approved boxes. Not to complicate life for you, but the easement you are pouring your driveway may result in government coming buy one day and digging it up at your expense.

You may already be using a licensed contractor who knows the rules and permitting. If not, I would get one.

You concrete is not the one I would seek advice on here. I have a homebuilding company and a concrete foundation & flatwork company. I would not rate this as a DIY.

Water companies (along with all other utilities can be complete aholes on this stuff. In Flower Mound, we have sidewalk walkers from the Town that just love to check for permits, widths of sidewalk, levelness of sidewalk, etc. The would absolutely notice the work being done or notice how beautiful your new driveway is. Then lockout your meter, fine you and tell you to tear it out and get a permit.

Or you may live on a country road and no one cares and you just want something sturdy.

Call the closest Ferguson Waterworks down there, they will know your city/MUD meter box spec and should be able to help (I'll be embarrassed if they can't )

You may not need a concrete box. DFW Plastics make some heavy duty plastic boxes that can easily handle incidental driveway traffic. Our meter box spec when I was in OKC was those and they are beefy.

What's your current box look like/size?

I finished this project last September. I ended up going to a Ferguson like you mentioned. It's a composite box with a cast iron lid.

Oh man I wasn't even drinking last night and missed the date of your post. My reply still could help the other guy.
