In the middle of remodeling the house, and repainting room by room as we find time to pull old wall paper and update things a bit...

A buddy of mine gave this good reviews and said as long as you clean the heck out of it, it works great for home use.

I can see that being an option for small projects, but I can't imagine painting multiple rooms, especially two coats. Seems like it's going to be a total pain constantly refilling that thing.

They are $55-$65 on amazon and probably same quality.

I saw those. I think the $100 version is a bigger or has more accessories.

Mainly thinking about using it to paint the trim, cabinets and doors.

After removing wall paper and scraping the popcorn ceilings, I am rolling on primer to seal the dry wall and then texturing the walls and sealing again. Would use this to spray the crown moulding and floor/door trim where overspray wouldnt matter as much.

Then come back with brush/roller to do large surfaces on walls and ceilings.

I don't mean to to be 'that guy' who recommends something 3x what you're currently looking at but....
https://www.homedepot.com/p/Graco-Magnum-X5-Airless-Paint-Sprayer-262800/100634354

I bought one of these for spraying my cabinets, cabinet boxes, and doors and it has been incredible. After a few hours of watching some youtube videos (Idaho Painter) and getting used to it I could compete with a robot for putting down an incredible finish. I've been absolutely blown away with its quality. My cabinets and doors look like they came from the factory in white.

I also did my whole master closet and pantry with incredible results. If I was going to repaint all the walls in my house I would have loved to do the baseboards with it.

300 bucks and this tool will last a lifetime.

From one MEEN to another, thanks for that rec. Will keep in mind, since I'm in the market for a house. May not serve OP's need, but appreciated by at least one reader!

I appreciate the rec. I figure for $50-$100 I can take a chance and see if I like spraying paint and if I get to where I don't use it but once every few years, then I'm not sunk in the money.

Other motivation is my air compressor is busted and I don't feel like buying a new one of that also.

HVLP guns work well. The idea is to give a ton of air at low pressure. You want 15+ CFM, but at about 6 to 8 psi. If you don't have enough flow/pressure the paint will not atomize well and it will not be smooth.

If you are spraying latex paint out of that unit, you might need to thin it to the max allowed by the product. You also want to go slow and probably reduce the tip size. To be honest, it is probably a bit underpowered. It is not that big of a risk though.

Someone mentioned an airless. This is a very different type of sprayer. They spray at a much higher psi. They will have more bounce back, but will spray a lot of paint really fast.

When I painted my house exterior, it was an airless (graco) and brush.
When I painted my interior walls and ceilings, it was airless (graco), brush, and roller.
When I finished my cabinets, doors, and trim, it was an hvlp (fuji) sprayer. You can use and airless for this as well, but I prefer hvlp. I like the finish, and it is so much faster to clean.

I am not going to go texags on you and recommend something much higher in cost. I was just trying to clarify the difference in an airless and hvlp unit. I also wanted to make a recommendation on trying latex with that unit.

Rockler sells a small hvlp unit. You can also research the earlex units as they have one that is 79 on amazon.

Gotcha. The gun I recommended is actually an airless sprayer with a compressor built into it. Compresses the paint directly and pushes it out as an atomized spray. Another option that doesn't require fixing your compressor.

Thanks. I didn't realize that is what it was.

I'll check it out and see.

Agree with this 100%. I have found that HVLP with oil based paint produces the best finish I can get. I like my airless rig for everything else but if I have to have a mirror finish, HVLP with oil all day.

So I took a chance and went to harbor freight for their $10 gun. Went ahead and but billet on a new compressor as well.

Overall, not too bad. Practiced a bit on some scrap wood then went to town on the cabinets and drawers. A few runs that I'll sand down and fix with a touch up once dry but wife is happy and I learned something new.

We are in the middle of a bathroom remodel and marble company installed the wrong cultured marble. ( will post a full thread on it later). Wife negotiated for them to replace the old vanity for free (and match it to the incorrect shower) and we would be okay with them not tearing it all out and re building. Hence me going ahead and painting cabinets, I don't have to worry about the counter top surface bring hit with paint

Very cool! I did the same thing with $10 HF hvlp gun and did my car bay!

Prepping of course took 10x the time.

Ain't that the truth. But painting is more fun this way. I scrubbed and cleaned the gun so I hope to use it on other rooms/doors and upcoming projects.
