I got quotes that ranged from $35-65k and that was no concrete, painting, & other exclusions.

I went the route of just hiring a framer instead of a grandioso patio builder. I then hired out the concrete (added slab and will be back to overlay everything) & a mason. I'm doing all of the stuff required in between trades and all the small finish out. Total cost should come in right at $20k.

I plan on starting a thread eventually that covers the progress.

Go with a gable. It gives you more room underneath and looks better from the yard. Also, using tongue and groove on the ceiling like in the picture posted looks great!

that looks great - but dang that's expensive.

Patio covers are expensive because they have many of the same costs as heated and cooled space. You also need a lot of different trades to work on them. In the example above, we see a concrete finisher, framer, roofer, stone mason, painter, electrician, and possibly gutters.

If you take the cost per ft, it makes sense. The post above said 20k, the patio is about 20x20 (correct me if I am wrong), and you get to about $50/ft. In our climate, I am not a fan of uncovered patios because they get less use.

In our previous home, we had two patios. One was covered and the other open, and we never used the open patio. The covered patio was used roughly 10 months of the year. You can sit out there in the summer mornings/evenings (fans), the winter days, or when it is raining. You simply get much more use out of a covered patio. You also are able to protect your furniture, grill, etc.

In our new home, we only built a covered patio. We went ahead and put siding on the gable, but did use pine tongue and groove on the ceiling.

Any reason the wood columns were not installed before the brick ?

I'm not saying it's not worth $20k+... just when I think of those $$$, I can think of a lot of other stuff I'd probably spend it on first.

The new concrete wasn't in place at the time of framing. The framing was put in with temp supports that were out of the way of where the new concrete was to be poured. The concrete was then poured, brick columns laid & filled with concrete doweled into the slab. A 16x16" pier cap goes on top and then the column mounts with a standoff base.

Thanks. Next is the outdoor kitchen, gonna save up for it. Maybe do most of it myself, people want crazy money for that kind of work. Only thing I don't want to do a cheap looking masonry job. I may do all myself and then get some help on the last piece.

Costed us about 30k plus another 9 or so in appliances to convert an existing covered patio to an enclosed kitchen.

We had Creekstone Outdoors in Houston do ours. The owner, Sam, is an Aggie and posts here every now and then. We were really pleased with their work.

What was your costs per SF if you don't mind me asking? Looking to do something very similar but having a hard time figuring out what kind of cost to expect.
