What's the best place to get replacement door knobs to redo the entire house? What's the current color that new homes are being built with? I currently have brass that I painted oil bronze but that didn't last long.

Oil rubbed bronze is pretty popular now. I've found Kwikset Cove to be the best value. Check Home Depot, Lowes, and Amazon for multipacks.

Oil rubbed bronze or brushed nickel are the most common options these days. I've bought on amazon and Handlesets.com and had good luck with both.

I replaced all of mine from Build.com. It looks like handlesets.com is their new spin-off website for door hardware.

The ones from HD/Lowes are cheap, and you can tell a difference, just like with faucets.

I've bought 2 houses worth of doorknobs from build.com

The prices are competitive from what I've seen and the selection is good. Unless you're going to sell the house (and I would question the value of door knobs in that situation) I would avoid trying to chase what the latest trend is. Bright brass is coming back and its hideous.

I'll add that I always spend a little more to get good/decent quality for things you're going to touch everyday.

I agree and also get the ones with handle knobs instead of the regular round knobs...you'll thank me later when you're carrying a load of stuff and trying to open a door to walk through it!

I'll also add that one of the handles I received from Build.com had a very very minor imperfection in the finish...to the point that I doubt anyone would notice, but I knew it was there so it stuck out like a sore thumb to me.

I called them and told them the issue. They immediately shipped a new one out and emailed the shipping label to send the other one back to them, no questions asked.

I've ordered a bunch of plumbing fixtures from them along with the door knobs/locks. If you have any locks or deadbolts in the order they'll send them to you already keyed the same if you want.

Also, if you order more than $1500 worth of stuff, you can get a quote for the project and they'll knock some money off of it. For my mom's house after Harvey they took like $700 off of a $6000 order.

The last time I ordered things, there were a couple toilets in the order and one of the bowls showed up broken. I emailed the rep I normally talk to with a picture and they sent out a replacement immediately.

Can you get these new door knobs keyed to match existing door knobs?

Oh man, it's been so long ago...I totally forgot about that.

Thanks for all the suggestions. Any recommendations on the brand? I have no loyalty on these.

Schlage or kwikset. I lean towards the well known brands because you're more likely to be able to match it or find parts in the future.

Looks like Kwikset is quite a bit cheaper than Schlage. Now the debate with the SO about levers versus knobs... and electronic front door or not.

My family has always gone in and out doors on the back of the house, so we all have electronic deadbolts and it is super convenient. We still have regular locks on the front doors though.

We went with Kwikset simply because they made the style we liked best.

I would definitely go with the electronic deadbolt. We put a smart lock on the front door (that we use the most) and it is really nice not having to get a key out every time. I wasn't sure if if would be worth it when I first bought it, but now would do it again in a heartbeat.

Kwikset all the way

I've replaced thousands of locks over the years and Kwiksets have been the most reliable and also have stronger internals than Schlage

Schlage (and maybe everyone else too) makes some nice universal-fit knobs and mechanisms that are nice.

We have an older home and wanted to stay more traditional. No idea if these will be out of style in 10 years...but build quality is nice.

especially for exterior make sure you check your hole sizes. there are 2 sizes used and most sets only support the larger 2".

Kwikset is cheaper but most of their locks/levers will support the smaller hole size as well.
Their rekeying technology is really good and no one else offers. Makes it simple if all of your stuff is on Kwikset, even if you want to add more locks later.

I've used two of their electronic deadbolts with good success.

I wanted to use a new Schlage electronic keypad but it didn't fit the smaller size hole.

Build.com has been great.

The only bad thing about those handles is they grab your pockets or belt loops. I've been caught on one more than once since we moved into our house two months ago.
