We need the entire cast iron drain pipe system replaced under our single story slab home in Lakeway, TX. It's 155 linear feet of pipe. We are being quoted $400 per foot to tunnel, remove and replace pipe, then backfill. $62k !!

Anyone else have this done in western Travis County? Is $400 per ft reasonable? Sounds terribly high to me.

Find someone that does the inner pipe coating in your area.

I've been looking at the pipe lining route but I'm being told the current cast pipes most likely won't hold up to the installation. Apparently they are worn too thin and broken through in some sections. I have another company coming out Tuesday for another look and proposal.

Interested if anyone out there has gone the full replacement route for cost comparisons.

That's a load of crap. As long as the shape is there it will work.

See video below with a section of the pipe cut out. They will just need to clear any debris before starting the process.

Way too high!
There may be some lesser expensive option where you could put in a grinder pump depending on where the sewer is located within the footprint
200 ft no rock
Rock will greatly increase the price

I had pipe bursting done at our previous home in Colorado. It was significantly cheaper than having to dig it out and replace. That's not even considering replacing the front patio and steps that would have had to be done to trench and replace

This video shows how it works, the one we had done was a cable run through the pipe to fit slight curves, as opposed to a firm rod. It burst about 6 feet of iron pipe and 25 feet of clay pipe

I am definitely going to re-visit the lining option!

Yeah, I have a short history of old home ownership, but I've found that if you keep digging (no pun intended) someone has come up with a cost effective solution to everything.
