I am about to have my back patio covered 12'x27' and will be installing 3 ceiling fans.

1) Would having 3 - 52" fans roughly 3' apart from each other be too close?

2) Why choose one fan blade size over the other?

Are you going to stagger them as 3 52's won't fit in 144 inches straight ?

For blade choice I prefer the first option for exterior application.

3' seems too close to me. I'd think 2-52" fans would be fine for 27' patio.

Have you considered a Big Ass Fan?

Thanks for the reply's. I was in the fence about whether to have 2 or 3, so this makes it easier. Started looking around more and was thinking about something like this:

What's the pricing on a big ass fan? It might be out of my price range.

My MIL has one in the living room at her beach house. It's amazing!

I have one of these with 52" blades for our outdoor patio:

I'd recommend the fan. If I were doing again I'd buy the 72" blades instead though:

I have a 63" version on our back patio and just installed a 72" in our living room. This fan is awesome

They work well. And quiet.

BigAss fans are nice, but at the end of the day you are buying a Yeti when an Ozark or Kodi (or whatever) is going to perform about the same.

Parents had two 84" Minka Aire installed in a barn for half the cost and they work well.

Not sure what value-add bigAss brings to the table unless you are talking 15' Costco sizes versions or whatever.

Having said that, we Own 3-4 yeti mugs. Hahaha.

Our fan isn't that particular brand, but for air movement and quiet you can't beat them.

For outdoor setting, what difference does an AC motor vs a DC motor make?

I have now been looking at this 72" fan with DC motor. Seems to have good reviews, though some of the negatives are when places outdoors and not creating enough airflow.

DC motors are more energy efficient, but you are probably talking 20-40 Watts difference at high speed. They tend to be more quiet too.

I wouldn't concern myself trying to find one vs the other. Id go with whatever has reputable reviews and looks to your liking.
