But nothing in the house. They want $700 to bait around the house as a precaution, but there's no telling how old the damage is or if there's an active colony without putting out bait monitoring. Suggestions? Anything I can put out to kill them if they are indeed near my house?

Terminix guy wanted to make some nice commission selling the stations it sounds like.

Did he even offer to treat the existing termites?

Wood fences will get termites due to wood touching ground.

If you want to kill the termites, buy a small jug of this, dig a trench , fill up trench with the mixed solution, fill back up and all worries solved.

That's what I'm thinking. He said they could bait and treat if they found anything. I'll probably just put out something to kill them.

Do you dig that trench anywhere in particular?

You DO have termites. They are all over, in the ground. In dead trees. In your fence.

This is not an issue. The issue is when they are IN your house. That's what the barrier treatment is for. If they aren't in a structure you don't want them to be in or is costly, then treat, otherwise...meh.

Google termite mud tubes. Look for those along your foundation.

If you have those you MIGHT have termites in your house. They could be old, inactive tubes. If you are wanting to treat for termites you dig a small (not deep, 4" or so) trench around the perimeter of the building you wish to keep the termites out of. Fill with chemical, backfill with dirt.

Thanks for the responses. The back of the house is pretty far off the ground. 8"-32" depending on where, and the closest part to the ground is farthest from the fence because we have a weird shape to our yard. Not too worried about them getting into the house around there. I'll probably put a trench and chemical between that section of fence and the house anyway though.

This.

Treat with Termidor if and when they're on your house.

I had mud tubes on the fence at my last house and had a local pest control company come out. They confirmed it was termites but said there wasn't a reason to treat and the house sound be fine
