I've got a blown outlet that looks like the one below. Our microwave was plugged into it, and when my wife knocked over a meatal rack I think it hit the prongs and shorted the outlet.

Question is...can I just replace the outlet, or do I need to check to see if anything else was damaged (wiring, etc)?

I thought it shorted the microwave, but it's still working fine.

Should just need to replace the outlet, however, did the breaker trip?

It did not.

That's not good as the breaker should have tripped if that pic is of your actual outlet. The breaker should have been your weakest link. Do you have a voltage tester that you can check to see if you still actually have voltage at the outlet wiring after you've removerd the outlet? Be sure to shut the breaker off before you remove thee outlet if you haven't already!

I don't, but might pick one up on the way home.

Correction: I had my wife send me a pic of the box, and the breaker did trip.

So all is good. I'll just replace the outlet.

Yes...I feared wiring/breaker issue, a blown microwave and vent hood, etc.

A new $3 outlet, and I should be good. I'll take that

At least she was in the kitchen when this happened.

She was deducted three wife points for blowing the outlet...but I'll credit her back two, because of the location.
