So I've started my outdoor kitchen build. My question is on the instructions for the built in 3 burner grill it says "the area directly below the grill must be open". I see many built in grills including this brand (Saber) installed with cabinets, doors, etc below the grill. So my question is, what is "directly below the grill"? I assumed that it was not a platform grill, just suspended from the bar top. Would it be ok to install double doors with interior shelving below the grill?

I think that means there needs to be adequate ventilation in the event of a gas or propane leak. We built one in like this a few years ago and installed a large vent cover on the back of the built in that allowed for circulation.

Yes - It should be ok. Just leave some space directly the below the unit for heat isolation and ventilation. If they didn't give hard spec's for what they mean by "space", then my guess is you'll be ok.

Make sure you follow the manufacturer ventilation requirements. Typically up high for natural gas and down low for LP. Also don't use anything combustible near the grill (ie no wood cabinet) unless you plan on using a insulated jacket/liner. Beyond that, any metal doors or door/drawer combo is fine. If you use the door/drawer combo make sure your gas line routing into the grill cabinet is able to run under, over, or behind the drawers side.
