Bats, displaced from Kyle Field I'm sure, have just taken up residence in my house. I saw them leaving by the hundreds last night and found fresh droppings this morning all over my driveway.

They were coming out from an archway that extends from the roof of my house, so I thought they were just up underneath the archway, but I inspected my attic and found a few droppings up there as well...

Have any of y'all dealt with bats before? If so, how much does it cost to get one of these certified companies to get rid of them. Also, is it possible that they don't want to live in my house permanently and are just migrating through??

A friend had a bats move into his attic in the Houston area. It seemed like a pretty involved process to remove them and make it so they wouldn't be able to get back in. Supposedly once they take up residency, they will continue to come back until their access is 100% blocked. Think you are going to need a specialist in bat removal. I can see who my friend used if you want, but I imagine he just works in the Houston area.

You are absolutely going to want to hire a specialist. Because they can fit through openings the size of a nickle, you will need the specialist to use smoke & smoke detectors to find all ways into the attic. We used ABC, and they called in a regional guy out of Houston.

Yeesh... I've read through my homeowner's policy and it looks like this is the type of thing I'm going to have to pay out of pocket for.

Hey, I got an idea: bats' biggest predator are birds of prey. So instead of dropping Big $$$ on an exterminator, why not just drop big $$$ on an exotics license and a falcon or owl?

Wonder if anyone rents them? Although, they may begrudge you fattening up their rental.

Mr Jon Man has taken care of all kinds of pests for me. He may be able to handle the bat issue too....

As an aside, my company might be interested in helping. We work with bats, more on a scientific side of things but might be able to help.

AND..by all means take this very seriously. A kid over in Humble died from a " brush" with a bat in his room a few years ago.

Dafuq does a bat get into an ac vent? You may want to call your hvac company too..

Seems like you'd be able to get rid of bats with sound.

BrazosDog02: Bats have razor sharp teeth, which in my case they used to chew their way through rigid fiberglass & foil ducts. Flexi-ducts would be no problem for them.

Redd38: Sound does work, but it takes days and you have to keep them from coming back after the sound drives them off. Still got to seal every tiny hole.

dlance: That sounds exactly like the service we received from ABC. I've never enjoyed writing a pest control check except for this one. Hands down would use again.

It would beat dying of rabies from a bite you didn't know you had. That's the problem with bats. Their teeth are so sharp you don't know you have been knicked and then its too late.

I got a chance to discuss it with my boss today and he said that on a residential platform he'd have the professionals (pest control) handle it.

Yep. If you wake up and find a bat in your room (or your kid's room!), get tested for rabies.

Pretty sure it's not get tested, think it is get the shots at that point...

My mom has one of those transonic deterrent things in her attic. She swears by it for keeping mice from coming in. It has a bat deterrent setting. Makes sense to me, for bats especially. Stick one up there, bats leave hopefully, that's what I'd do b

actually I think you're right - You have something like 48 or 72 hours to start getting treatment.

True story. Fell asleep on the couch and wife starts freaking out. Wake up to a bat circling the living room. She was watching batman.

We had someone out and they couldnt find any signs. Had a few more come in over next few nights. Always in the living room. I got lucky one night and saw one come through small opening in between bricks and fireplace. Was able to seal it off and problem solved. Otherwise, it sounded like it was going to be an expensive battle.
