thinking about doing this for kitchen and breakfast nook.....have a contractor who will do it very reasonably ($3.50 linear foot). He has done a lot of molding work for me in the past and does a good job, however I only speak broken Spanish and trying to figure out if there are options in the tongue and groove? For example, are there different sizes and/or types of boards we can use?

Had another contractor recommend something called "reverse" tongue and groove is popular now. Anyone ever heard of this?

Any thoughts or advice?

TIA

Reverse tongue and groove... Is that like a left-handed screwdriver? Semi-serious question because I have never heard of it and it sounds like snake oil to me.

apparently they just install the boards upside down and it has a cleaner finish. never seen it before though

How many screws are used to hold together a lesbians bed?

None, it's all tongue and groove.

I'll see myself out.

There are different profiles for T&G which leave a different look at the joint - V groove, small reveal, etc. Reversing it basically means the joints are tighter, because it's the part you don't see normally.

Ask for a small mockup or maybe get some samples from the manufacturer. Make sure installing it that way doesn't affect warranty.

This is a project that you could knock out in a weekend with a friend. My brother and I did a 12 x 12 section of my back patio from Friday evening to Sunday about noon. All you need are a few reverse clamps, a few plastic c clamps, a nail gun and jig saw to cut out any light holes and a miter saw to cut and angle the boards. Cost me about $300 total.

This includes ripping out the existing ceiling which took the better part of Saturday.

I installed V edge T&G on the ceiling in our famil room. I paid somewhere around $1.80-$2.10/lf for the material if it helps any. It's prety easy to DIY. In your situation I would not demo out the drywall in the ceiling and just install it underneath.

Yeah, definitely leave the drywall in-place...especially if you have blown-in insulation!
