What do you use to clear a slow shower drain?

Our shower drain has gotten slow over the past couple of weeks. It pools around your ankles when showering, and takes 3-4 minutes to completely drain when the water is shut off. I've used 2 different kinds of Liquid Plumber (or something like that), but it doesn't seem to have made a difference.

Any suggestions or tricks on what would work better?

Thanks

Probably stopped up with hair. You can buy a cheap plastic barbed tool from Home Depot for $2 or $3. Run it down the drain and pull out the hair.

I assume he means a shower drain (as in not a bathtub drain) that has a grate.

Try this. If you don't get a big clump of hair, use this:

The little chrome grate that I have in my shower is friction fit and can be popped off to clean the drain with the little barbed tool the previous poster was talking about.

I use the little plastic barbed tool, followed by a 15ft long hand cranked snake. I do this once a year and it works great. Takes about 10/15 minutes to make sure you snake it good.

Thrift is a product that will become your best friend!! Just pour it down the drain and run hot water and it works like magic. Many girls in a household leads to much drain cleaning from all that hair. http://www.amazon.com/Thrift-T-200-Drain-Cleaner-2-Pound/dp/B00E1N07LY/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1439229768&sr=8-1&keywords=thrift

I've tried all the chemical drain cleaners, they don't really work.

At best they work for a few weeks. At worst they do nothing.

Popping off the drain cover and digging out the hair is the only way.

Have had similar issue and can't get a snake to the clog.

I will bring hose into the house, get it down the drain as far as possible, wrap the hose with a plastic wrap and towel to try to create a seal at the drain. Turn water on full speed and keep the seal down as best I can.

Eventually the pressure will wash the clog out.

I've done that with the drain line on my washing machine before. It surprisingly works

I've always used draino / liquid plumber gel. Pour half a bottle in and let sit for about 30 minutes and the. Run hot water

I tried that. Two bottles (half a bottle each time) . No luck.

I'm going to get that barb tool this weekend.

I've used a plunger but a couple of other options I haven't tried are:

This stuff works. I moved on to this after the stuff in the big box stores failed me. It's available at some Ace Hardware stores if you check the Thrift website.

Try Flo-Easy.

Smaller company out of Destin and you can pick up some at your local McCoys. The stuff works. It uses a virgin sulfuric acid which is unique to any other brand.

I'm a manufactures rep and my boss just bought this company. We rep the stuff and do demonstrations with ours vs the competitors.

Depends where the clog is. Usually in my shower it is long strands of hair hanging up in the high part of the drain. Cleaners run by it and never "soak" on the problem area.

If it is down in the trap, cleaners will probably work better.
