I posted this on the outdoors board, but I realize that this board may be more fitting... So, I am going to post it here too.

I have a ton of trees around my property that are really sh**** and need to be cleaned up.

I've pretty much eliminated getting a gas powered one. I won't use it enough. This will be a tool I may use 2-3 times a year at most.

I've looks at electric powered ones (there's one at harbor freight for $69.99 right now). Here are a few others I considered:

Harbor Freight - http://m.harborfreight.com/15-HP-Electric-Pole-Saw-68862.html?ccdenc=eyJjb2RlIjoiNjQyMjczNzYiLCJza3UiOiI2ODg2MiIsImlzIjoiNjkuOTkiLCJwcm9kdWN0X2lk%0D%0AIjoiODcyMSJ9%0D%0A#.UyHcaf69LCQ

Remington - http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B007HLJRNG/ref=mp_s_a_1_1?qid=1394728118&sr=8-1&pi=SY200_QL40

I've also looked at battery powered ones. There's the black and decker one and the ryobi one at Home Depot.

B&D - http://m.homedepot.com/p/BLACK-DECKER-8-in-20-Volt-Lithium-ion-Electric-Cordless-Pole-Saw-LPP120/203245368/

Ryobi - http://m.homedepot.com/p/Ryobi-One-8-in-Lithium-ion-Pole-Saw-P4361/203444119/

Then I've also thought of just getting one of the manual pruner/lopper saws that reach up like 14-16 feet.

Anyone mind sharing their experience. I'm leaking towards the Harbor Freight cheap o.

I only have a few trees on my property and bought this manual pruner from HD:

http://www.homedepot.com/p/Fiskars-14-ft-Bypass-Pruner-93006966J/100153111

It works pretty well, but can be a pain when fully extended or if the branches are thick. I've had it get stuck a few times and was forced to yank it down in a less than safe way. However, for $40 it's a much better deal than having to call a tree trimmer out every year.

I've never used the saw blade that came with it. I couldn't figure out to saw something that's 14 ft. up in the air.

If your max is about a 15 foot reach, I would definitely go powered for the sake of your neck and shoulders. The pruner pole saw is a bear to use, especially if you have a lot of trees that need work. Obviously if you have branches that may be safely out of reach of a powered saw, manual might be worth having on hand as well.

I can’t recommend any of the products, as I have gas powered… but I live on a heavily oak wooded lot, so I have little option.

Pete, I purchased the Remington brand from Lowe's about 8 years ago and couldn't be happier with my decision. Plus all of my neighbors enjoy using it as well cause we all have oak trees that need clean up on an annual basis.

It's a durable unit plus the handle is detachable from the miniature change saw, so you have the added feature of a small hand held electric chain saw when needed. It gets used quite a bit, however I still have the original chain, that has never been re-sharpened and it cuts better than my 18" Skil chain saw that's had several blades changed and re-sharpened over the years!

Remember, cheap is not always better!

Just an update. I went with the cheap pole saw from Harbor Freight. That thing did the trick. I highly recommend it.

Got the cheapest pole saw at Home Depot, I think it was $40.

Have already used it so much I've replaced the blade. Works great. Love the fact I can jut grab it and go. I've cut thick oak branches 25' in the air with the thing. (Help of a ladder)

Would recommend this route even if you have a power one.
