Removing satellite dish from rooftop

How long do you want to ignore this user?
The previous owners of our house had a Direct TV dish installed on the roof. I plan on taking it down - what's the best (easiest/cheapest) solution for patching the holes where it was screwed in? Fill the holes with roof cement?

Anyone had any horror stories from this?

I have this issue currently, it is still up, but I have thought about removing the dish and then just put back down the black "pad" and screws back into the roof. Will this work or is that black pad attached to the actual dish.

Just leave the foot on the roof and remove the mast?

That... The previous owners of my place had it mounted on the eave so I removed the whole thing and put the bolts back in the facia with caulk. Had it been on the actual roof I would have left the foot on the shingles.

If you want to remove it all, caulk the bolt holes and then cover and caulk the holes with a piece of sheet metal underneath the shingle. Or wait until the next hail storm and remove it before they re-roof your house.

Why risk a leak? I took an old one off my roof (dish and mounting arm) but left the mounting shoe bolted in place. Can't see it from the ground so I didn't care, but can understand wanting to remove everything if it's in view.

I also meant to ask, is it attached to the roof over attic space, or just bolted at an eve/overhang? May seem obvious, but some people see a hole in the roof as a hole in the roof, even if it's open air on both sides...
