Tree removal?

I have a tall (35 ft) oak that has about a 12 inch diameter that is dead and needs to be removed.

The problem is that there is nowhere for it to fall. Fence on one side, carport on one side and a shed on another. Te fourth side is pretty dense trees that would catch it.

Anyone have an idea of how much it'll cost to get someone to remove it?

I'm in Denton if anyone knows of someone here.

I am in Dallas and I've used Texas Tree Techs before to have some stuff removed and trimmed. Give Clay a call at 214-543-2565. I do not know if he goes up to Denton or not, but its worth asking.

I had some very large photinias, one of them was dead and had to be removed and they did the stump grinding as well. He did a good job, considering he had to do all of this between our pool and fence.

A guy across our alley was in a similar situation as yours (very large, dead tree - close to a fence and house), and the people who came out took it down in pieces. So, it can be done.

Ok I'll give them a call.

I'm afraid to hear what the price might be though.

My neighbor in Houston had one taken down last summer and the stump ground down for $500, just as a reference.

Ouch.

I don't need the stump ground because its never seen and it actually might make a handy place to set a tool or beverage while working on the boat under the carport

Oh, and I paid $400 to have the dead photinia cut down and stump ground and the other 5 trimmed pretty substantially. And these things were in the 15'+ range (which to me is pretty big for photinia's).

I had a 40 foot tree cut down last summer. It was leaning over a neighbors house, so there was no letting it fall. Cost about 550.

Also, if your tree could fall and damage something like a house, make sure your guys are insured, and check their insurance. If they screw up and crush someone's house you need to make sure you are protected.

$500 = ouch?

Make sure your guys are insured, but $500 is a decent price.

I know its reasonable for the job, but its a lot of money nonetheless. Especially for something I get zero enjoyment or benefit from.

I'll pay it, though, because I don't want it to incur more costly damages.

I gave $900 for about a 40ft Hackberry to be pieced down and stump ground in Fort Worth.

Same story...next to detached garage, power line going through the middle of it, next to a fence.

I would have loved a $500 quote. I mean hackberries tear up chains, but not that much worse, right?

Did you ever end up getting you tree cut down? I live in Arlington and am looking to get a 40ft Silver Maple cut down. I've gotten a quote for $995 for removal and stump grinding and am wondering if there's a better deal out there. Thanks!

No I haven't been in town at a time to be able to get quotes yet. I plan on getting it done around the first part of June.
