Tired of all the dang ants!

I kill a pile, and it seems like they move 3 feet over. Does anyone have a recommendation for a good ant killer than i could apply with my drop spreader (or some other method i could do myself)?

Amdro or Over and Out.

Call a pro and have him put out Topchoice. It's rather expensive but they won't move 3 feet. They'll move 3 blocks for the next year.

Aloft is a great 4 month product for ants and it does a number on chinch, grub, etc as well.

Top Choice is e'spensive, but based on the coverage and your lot size, you could probably use the same bag for the next 5-15 years.

Over and Out is the OTC version of what pest companies use (according to a pest control friend.) I have been using it for years - spread one time in the spring. I have not seen a fire ant in my yard in all that time.

Over n out. It takes a week or two to work after watering in, but it is good. The old version was good for a year. 6 months now.

Is over n out something I can get at home depot or need to go somewhere special?

Thanks for the tips

I just did a quick search on Over N Out and it appears that the active ingredient is no longer fipronil. It is bifenthrin now thus, I would assume, the relabeling for shorter duration of control.

I just bought a few bags of Topchoice(fipronil) and had to sign for it with my license. Not sure if it is restricted completely now or not.

Stick,

Good observation. I never even bothered to look at the label.

That active ingredient was the key. That is the active ingredient in the number one termite treatment out there right now, which I was told was the reason it was so effective.

I just put some down, so I will see how it does and have to remember to try and switch next year.

I have a sneaking opinion (just personal no real basis) that fipronil will get outlawed at some point. It is one of those kill by interrupting reproduction poisons. I saw an article a while back about it being outlawed in France because they connected it with declining bee populations and that after discontinuing it the bee numbers improved. Not sure how valid that information was, but it is the kind of thing I could see the government banning it for eventually.

Spectracide Triazicide Insect Killer (for lawns) wreaked havoc on a few ant piles in my yard in a matter of minutes. I'm still on the fence as to its effectiveness on the rest of the yard.

Talstar

It's the stuff my pest control service uses so I figure it must be pretty good (They would let me buy the product direct).

You can find places that sell it using Google.

I used the dry stuff and applied it with my broadcast spreader. A fried of mine used the pre-mixed liquid and also had real good success.

I tried over-n-out... killed off all but 1 pile in 2 days just using a spreader and watering it in. I didn't focus on any piles.

Havent seen any new piles pop up yet either

So far so good
