Cross Posting in OB-to the question...

Building a house. Have a good road base coming in to the location(dirt road, mainly clay). I am located near Victoria. I am looking at limestone, coal ash, and there was another by product someone mentioned out of Point Comfort I can't remember the name of the stuff.

Basically want to know recommendations based on holding up long term and cost. I have to cover about 700 ft of road.

TIA

I vote for crushed limestone. It sets up like concrete and is easy to maintain. I have had it on my drive for 25 years. Drainage is key (as it is for almost any other material). Can't run water across it and best not to have water standing adjacent to due to base failure. Another base material common in the sandy land of East Texas is Iron Ore gravel. I still like limestone better since iron ore doesn't set up as well. Limestone can be dusty until it gets set up well. Bad for black, or even maroon, cars.

might also look at recycled concrete, would work the same at crushed limestone

Might also consider RAP (recycled asphalt paving). Considerably cheaper than hot asphalt.

We have the limestone and my problem with it is when wet, it tracks everywhere.
