Howdy, just bought a very old house near downtown Houston and we're replacing what's worn out in the kitchen. Unfortunately, that includes the floors. There was a bad leak at some point and the old floors (pine tongue and groove, beautiful in the rest of the house) are rotted pretty badly to where you can stick an awl right through them; we pulled up the sticky tiles and plywood that had been placed over the old pine floors yesterday. Even beyond the rot, some of it had been patched long ago with plywood or lumber, so refinishing's not an option.
The good news is that the 1" x 5"/6" slat subflooring that's over the joists (as viewed from under the house--it's pier and beam) is in great shape, so we're just looking at replacing the wood flooring over those slats in a roughly 25 square foot room.
Anyone have a good Houston, preferably inside-the-loop, recommendation for someone to tear out and install new/reclaimed floors in a space that size? I'd love to do the project myself, but I work a lot and need this finished quickly once it's started. (We're demo-ing the lower cabinets ourselves and probably just putting new plywood under those, so there's no tear-out or installation involved there.)
