I need to drill a hole that is 2.5" in diameter but only 1/4" deep into a 3/4" board.

Thus, a hole saw will not work. Is there such a thing as a spade bit that big?

I guess I could use a router, but a drill bit would be way, way easier.

I am going to make a beer sampler paddle.

You know, the kind they bring out beer flights on.

I have a router so I think I'll give that a go and see how it works out.

It's called a forstner bit. Should be easy to find one in 2 1/2".

You can buy 2 1/2 inch Forstner bits. But bits that large will probably have a 1/2 inch shaft.
