I have a shaded/partially shaded empty flower bed in the corner of my yard. I was wondering if purple trailing lantana would work well in this spot. I've had lots of success with lantana in full sun locations. Someone also suggested planting wandering jew to me, as it grows well in the shade. If the lantana isn't a good choice, what else could I place there? I prefer something a different color than just green or that has flowers. I know caladiums would work but I like lantanas much more.

Lantana will not grow well in shade.

Try St. Johns Wort. its a decidous plant, green all year, and has a unique yellow flower in the spring...yes even in full shade.

I've got lantanas that do well in mostly shaded areas.

Blue Plumbago is another good choice for part shade color.
Also try:
Katy Dwarf Ruellia
Salvia coccina (Tropical Sage)
Texas Betony
Turk's Cap

I second Turks Cap. It is beautiful and does well in shade.

Are seeds/bulbs for turks cap easy to find? I don't know if I've seen it in a store around here (Austin).

Turk's Cap is one you need to buy in a 1 gallon pot. I'd try Barton Springs Nursery on Bee Caves or Texas Grown Plants on 71 past the Y in Oak Hill.
