No. 4 Women's Golf Takes on Golfweek Red Sky Classic

- The Aggies look to continue their strong start to their fall campaign at the Golfweek Red Sky Classic.
- Texas A&M is one of five top 25 programs competing in the tournament.
- The Aggies roster is anchored by Preseason All-Americans Vanessa Borovilos and Cayetana Fernandez Garcia-Poggio.

WOLCOTT, Colo. - The No. 4 Texas A&M women's golf team returns to action at the Golfweek Red Sky Classic Sept. 21-23 at the Red Sky Golf Club.

The Fazio Course at Red Sky Golf Club serves as the host of the tournament, with the 54-hole tournament beginning Monday at 10 a.m. with the first 18. Live stats for the event can be found at Golfstat.com.

The Aggies are coming off a runner-up finish in the fall opener at the Folds of Honor Collegiate, where they finished 2-under 862 as a group. Freshman Emerie Schartz led the Aggies in her collegiate debut, shooting a 2-under 214 and tying for sixth individually. All five Aggies finished in the top 20.

The Lineup

Head Coach Gerrod Chadwell will be bringing a lineup that is led by Vanessa Borovilos and Cayetana Fernandez Garcia-Poggio. The 18th and 31st ranked individuals on the World Amateur Golf Ranking, respectively.

Also making the trip to Colorado will be freshman Schartz, who led the Aggies to a second-place finish at the Folds of Honor Collegiate. Louise Reau, who shot an even-par 216 and tied for 12th in her last outing, will be making her second start of the season.

Rounding out the lineup for the Aggies will be Sky Sudberry, who recorded three top-10 finishes last season.

Individually, Vanessa is tied for 4th with three others at -5. Three USC players top the leader's board - Two tied for 1st (-7) and one in 3rd (-6). Louise is tied for 7th at -4.

The Aggies started on the back 9. They finished with a -1. But they got hot on the front 9 and shot a -9, giving them the 18-hole score of -10. Each Aggie had a lower score on the front 9. If I recall correctly they were in 10th after 9 holes but vaulted to 3rd the next 9 holes! Freshman Emerie went from +4 to -2.

Aggies Torch Front Nine in Round One of Golfweek Red Sky Classic

- Texas A&M shot a tournament-best 9-under on the front nine.
- Vanessa Borovilos was tied for fourth after 18 holes, two shots back of the individual lead, after shooting 5-under 67.
- The Aggies posted a season-low 10-under 278 as a team, which was the 15th round in program history at 10-under or better.

WOLCOTT, Colo. - The No. 4 Texas A&M women's golf team blitzed the front nine of the Golfweek Red Sky Classic Monday and finished the day in third with a score of 10-under 278 at the Red Sky Golf Club.

The Maroon & White teed off on the back nine and went on to turn in a tournament-best 9-under on the front nine. Louise Reau got the Aggies four shots back on the front, while Vanessa Borovilos added another three birdies. The team ended the day in third behind No. 2 USC (-22) and Miami (-11).

The round was the 15th in program history that the Aggies have shot 10-under as a team. Nine of those rounds have been during the Gerrod Chadwell era.

Borovilos led the team with a score of 5-under 67. The All-American carded an eagle on the par-5 No. 15 and then added three birdies on the front to earn a share of fourth. The junior was two shots back of the individual lead.

Reau sank a team-high six birdies and shot 4-under 68. The senior was tied for seventh after 18 holes. Sky Sudberry fired a 1-under 71 in her first action of the season and was knotted up for 25th.

Cayetana Fernndez Garca-Poggio shot even-par and was tied for 33rd, while freshman Emerie Schartz went 2-over 74 and held onto a piece of 58th.

The Aggies return for the second round Tuesday with a tee time of 12:40 p.m.

As bad as the back nine was (our first 9), the front nine couldn't have gone much better. A great close to get us back into contention.

Louise was -6 on her last 11 holes. Vanessa was -4 on her last 10 holes.

It seems USC was just about the only team that played better on the back 9.

There is a notice on the Golfweek Red Sky Classic Team Leaderboard this morning (after the first round yesterday) that says this:

"At 22-under 266, USC sets a new single-round scoring record at the Golfweek Red Sky Classic as well as a team scoring record for a single round."

Cata Paces Ags at Golfweek Red Sky Classic


- Cayetana Fernandez Garcia-Poggio shot 4-under 68 and jumped 18 spots on the individual leaderboard.
- Texas A&M registered its fourth lowest 36-hole score in program history, turning in a 17-under 559.
- All five golfers shot even-par or better in the second round of the Golfweek Red Sky Classic.

WOLCOTT, Colo. - The No. 4 Texas A&M women's golf team remained in third after the second round of the Golfweek Red Sky Classic Tuesday and were led by Cayetana Fernandez Garcia-Poggio who fired a 4-under 68 at the Red Sky Golf Club.

The Aggies posted a 36-hole score of 17-under 559, which was the fourth lowest in program history. They were one shot back of Miami (-18) and 16 back of No. 2 USC (-33) for the lead.

Fernandez Garcia-Poggio started the day with three-straight birdies on Nos. 2, 3 and 4. The senior totaled seven birdies during the round and posted her lowest 18 holes of the season. The All-American moved into a share of 15th.

Sky Sudberry fired a 2-under 70 and was tied for 20th, while Vanessa Borovilos and Louise Reau were knotted up at 10th with team-low scores of 5-under 139 thru Tuesday's action. Freshman Emerie Schartz rounded out the group tied for 48th.

The Aggies wrap up the Golfweek Red Sky Classic Wednesday with a 10:15 a.m. shotgun start. Live stats for the tournament can be followed at:

Women's Golf Turns in Historic Final Round at Golfweek Red Sky Classic

- Louise Reau tied for fifth on the individual leaderboard and in program history for a 54-hole score, carding an 11-under 205.

- Texas A&M cracked the top three in the school record book for 18-hole and 54-hole marks.

- The Aggies have not finished outside of the top three at a fall tournament since October of 2024.


WOLCOTT, Colo. - The No. 4 Texas A&M women's golf team posted the third lowest round in program history Wednesday after firing a 15-under 273 which secured it a share of third at the Golfweek Red Sky Classic.

The Aggies turned in the second lowest 54-hole score in school history as well, carding a 32-under 832 for the week. The Maroon & White shared third with Pepperdine and fell to Miami (-33) and USC (-47).

Louise Reau went 6-under 66 in the final round and etched her name in the Texas A&M record book, with a 54-hole score of 11-under 205 which was tied for the fifth best ever. Reau tied for fifth on the individual leaderboard to lead the team.

Vanessa Borovilos, Cayetana Fernandez Garcia-Poggio and Emerie Schartz all shot 3-under 69 on the last day, helping them secure solo 14th, a piece of 15th and a share of 40th, respectively. Sky Sudberry rounded out the lineup also with a tied for 40th.

The Aggies return for more fall golf Oct. 19-21 at The Fin in Fairfield, Texas, at the Freestone Lake & Golf Club. Live stats for The Fin can be found at scoreboard.clippd.com.
