Heading down there to play the week of Labor Day in a Ryder Cup style event. Seems to be an incredible place from what little I've been able to find on it. Will be there 3 days, playing 18/36/18. Anyone been? Any tips?

Pretty cool from a golf architecture perspective.
Played it 5-6 years ago when it was Al Stanger's personal course. He passed away in a tragic accident about 10 years ago. I was a guest of the architect Mike Nuzzo.

My number one concern would be housing. I am sure the Dormie network has built nice lodging but nail that down ahead of time.
Don't know that my golf info will be that helpful now.
Back then it was bring your own food water and snacks. There was "clubhouse" at the start of the round but nothing out on the course.

The course played firm and fast and that is why it got the accolades from guys like Tom Doak.

Some bizarre greens and holes you won't see elsewhere in Texas. No rough.

Not a ten best in Texas IMO but certainly was a unique experience. You should have a great time.

Almost forgot - bring mosquito repellant.

Thanks for all of the notes and tips - especially about the mosquito repellent - hadn't even thought about that. I think they've turned Al's house into lodging for groups playing the course. Dormie Network has said they are not building cottages on it like at their other courses. Not sure how food and beverage will work, but this event is always top notch, I'm sure it will be great. We have to catch a charter from Hooks in Houston to even get there.

Are there caddies? Carts or walking only? Excited to check it out!

It appears there are cabins in addition to the main house.

We went last year. We had a good time as food and lodging and open bar were great.
Golf course wasn't great. Could be great if they would mow the greens. But they played to maybe a stimp 7. We couldn't get the ball to the hole.

But maybe they mow the greens for you. Let us know…

Camels were cool. Place was neat. Just really slow greens…

With the "bizarre greens" description, are they slow to remain playable?
