Just recently got a new shaft for my long driver for the WLD competitions. FreeFlex FF 38 TBT driver shaft with shipping and fees from Korea $900!! So far it's delivered results with ball speeds consistently over 200 mph. Getting expensive these days for quality components!

If it's still hitting those, it must me broken. I'd buy a new one. Faulty product.

Manufacturers have been pumping our drivers every year. Somehow, the new standard is $699. Last year's models are running $200 less, so there's always that option unless you have to have the newest driver.

Last two drivers I purchased were both last year's models. Still new in-store.

I got a "used" Qi10 from Global Golf for $300 that still had the wrapper

Bought a Ping 410 LST last year from a friend for $40. This year, I replaced the shaft with a shorter Vista Pro ($130) and a slightly heavier head weight ($18) to compensate. So all in, $188.

I have an original stealth driver

I went and hit all the new stuff on trackman earlier this year. Everything within a few yards of each other. No switch. Technology can only get so much better.

I got new irons but lost almost a full club in carry distance. Spin rates are way better though. Old irons were 10 years old. Scoring is way better

Getting something lighter with potentially different kick point could certainly help. Changing those things may let u move into a different head

I don't get to play much anymore, but y'all are reinforcing me continuing to swing my white headed TaylorMade Rocketballz driver from lord know how long ago.

I had an R1 a few years ago gifted to me, played it for a while with decent results, and then traded it in. With what I've learned about driver setup and experience applying it to my current driver, I really wish I had that R1 back now.

I use a kirkland driver from costco with no changes to it.

The head has to fit your general swing characteristics (eg, don't use a low lofted driver if your swing takes loft away at impact.)The head can definitely hurt your game if it doesn't suit you. But the shaft is where the big gains are. This is my fairway accuracy with my current driver this year. Two changes are circled: shaft change (-1", same flex, but 10g heavier) and a setting change to Flat +1.

Yea I get all of that.

What I'm saying is if I have a good driver with a good shaft that I hit well there is little if anything a new driver can do for me.

15 years ago when I could routinely hit 300+ yard drives new technology could make a big difference. Now I hit a good drive about 250. But I hit it well. Sucks getting old. But there is no reason for me to change drivers as long as my swing stays the same

I picked up an old Ping G10 for $70 at 2ndswing last year. It just fits my swing I guess. I went from spraying it everywhere constantly to being pretty consistent.

I know there is way better equipment out there, but for someone who only plays 15-20x per year it works great

I have a lot of shafts and heads I no longer need if you need practice clubs

I got custom fit earlier this year for a Taylormade Qi4D with a Ventus TR Red 6-X shaft. Unfortunately, brand new will run you $1050. Pro shop credit helped offset about 40% of this, but thats the most expensive golf club I've ever purchased.

The good news is, like someone else mentioned, once you have the right shaft fit, you can just buy the head moving forward. My dispersion off the tee is significantly tighter that it was with my Mizuno STg 440 or Titleist TSi3, so I will say there is something to the new technology. I have a friend who has broken multiple Taylormade Qi10 heads, hopefully I will have better luck than he did, so far its not had any problems.

If you have the ability to get custom fit with your local pro, rather than going to a demo day and having a guy who's only watched you swing a club for 30 minutes, go with your pro. He probably knows your game, and can fit you with a better long term fit rather than what fits you that day. That is just my $0.02.

My experience is limited but FWIW, Taylormade has great customer service. Cracked the face on fairway wood that was a few years old and they sent me a replacement club within 5 days.

That would probably be best if they did that, but the visibility of these drivers on the PGA tour, you have guys that are going to buy new drivers every year because that's what is on tour.

I finally replaced my TS3 3 wood with a GT 4 wood after the GTS came out, and saved a considerable amount doing that, but fairway woods don't change much year over year, the TS3 was almost 8 years old at this point.

I do think as I get older, I am working to find clubs that fit my game and play them until they don't fit my game anymore. I still carry a 3 iron and 4 iron, because I can still hit them, but I could see a 7 wood in my future in the next few years.

Believe it or not, the face of newer titanium drivers do in fact wear out.

Obviously someone with a slower (<100 mph) swing speed it's going to last a lot longer, but since everyone here hits it 300+ yards, then after 7+ seasons, a new head will make a difference, especially if you go to the range 2-3x per week and play 20+ times a season.

This is also true. But according to my pro, the shaft will outlive every drive head and face you put on the end of it (provided you don't beat the hell out of your club, slam it on the ground, etc.)

So that's a plus I guess.

So, I recently received a gift card for a driver fitting/new driver. I've never had a fitting of any kind. I bought the one driver I've ever had from the Callaway Preowned site around 2013.

Not knowing anything about your handicap or swing, I would still say yes. Playing a shaft that is tailored to your swing speed will help you get the face back to position, and driver technology has made mis-hits much more playable. A low face/toe miss with my new driver is still in play compared to my older driver mis-hits that was much farther off line. You should also see a tighter shot dispersion than you do with your older driver.

If you bought your current driver off the rack without a fitting, chances are good that it wasn't optimized for your swing 13 years ago, let alone today. You should see some gains from a fitting now.
