Kid is pretty special. As an amateur he made 7/9 cuts (2024/25) on the PGA tour with 2 top 5's, 3 top 10's and 4 top 25s. He left a ton of money on the table as an amateur!

Surprised he made it given Gerard, Spaun, McNealy, Griffin are all top 25ish guys. Probably more of a favor to give him experience for future cups.

Wife and I had this conversation this morning.

She was livid seeing JT on the team. The reason we're always a step behind is we treat the President and Ryder cups like a bonus incentive plan for past play of older guys. The only thing that matters is who is hot now and who has the drive to compete. Not who did something last year. They got FedEx Cup money for finishing high last year. It should not factor into an auto bid for a future competition.

And more importantly we are horrible at preparing the young up and comers to represent team USA. Stop throwing out the old retreads. Get the young guys prepping and playing.

Leadership qualities be damned, Justin Thomas barely making the BMW championship, yet being chosen is extremely questionable.

Auto qualifiers

• Top 6 based on rank of current FedEx Cup list at conclusion of season.
• A documented injury requiring WD or missing a planned tournament during the previous 6 months negates auto qualifying. Can be a Captain's pick if team doctor signs off.

Captain Picks

• Focus on FedEx Cup points earned since May of current season
• Must be 30 years old or younger.
• Player over 30 may only be considered if they are in the top 30 in FedEx Cup points earned between May-August (currently playing lights out)
• Focus on short game and putting statistics over driving stats

I'd also like to see a second team formed of the top 12 guys under 30 that didn't make it and have them prep with the team. Play matches against the varsity in the same formats that will be played at the Ryder / President's cup. If they aren't interested in doing so, it tells you what you need to know for future selections.

Guys I would have preferred been giving a shot or we start developing now.

Yes, I was equally shocked to see JT make it. The US should have such an advantage with a second team event on the calendar.

It was own step forward taking a Koivun and then one step back with JT.

I guess you can't expect much from a team that can't even get their guys teeing off on the right holes in a Ryder Cup.

JT was in the top 12 of the presidents cup point standings. Some of the guys you suggested such as Gerard, Smalley or Bhatia should have played better regarding the Presidents cup standings and made the team via automatic qualifying to secure their spot as they finished outside the top 12.
